My sister Laurie, her daughter Elle, and our friend Clara came to spend Sunday here at the farm. We had a lovely day picking sunflowers, zinnias, and basil out of the our garden, eating lunch, making pesto and just relaxing in the gorgeous almost fall weather. We may not be growing our giant sunflower field along the road but I have a garden full of successively planted blooms that have been stuffed in vases all through the house since August.
While we were picking basil, we discovered two cauliflower romanesco amongst the jungle of garden plants all trying to set seed before fall kicks in. This really is one of the most interesting veggies out there. When you look close, it is like an entire village could reside in its curves and folds. Reminds me of a Dr. Seuss landscape. For all you color junkies, do you see that little bit of contrasting purple at the top left of the photo. See how nature just really knows how to do color.
It is going to be all I can do to cut this thing up and roast it but I will. Amazingly beautiful vegetable. Tasty too!
On Sunday, the lead house feature over on the Houzz website weekly newsletter was our farmhouse. How very exciting for me and Rikki Snyder, the photographer. Check out the article and all the wacky comments. People really feel strongly yay or nay about the house, my colors, and collections. It's turning a bit nasty as the comments chug on. I have never been involved in such an on-line conversation. I'm not actually involved, just looking in. I am amazed at the stuff people will say about someone else's taste when their identity isn't really traceable. At least people are commenting. Good thing I have thick skin and just love our house, what I have collected, my hobbies, and colors.
On the yarn front, hop on over to the Classic Elite blog. There is a new interview with me there and some of the questions are those that I have never answered here. There is also a new free downloadable pattern for a Color By Kristin Fair Isle Cosy for your tablet gizmo available from Classic Elite.

I love, love, love every inch of your house! I have been reading your blog for years and never knew what amazing paint you had in each room. I want to curl up in that reading nook and finish my book.
Comments almost always degenerate as they go along and the anonymous trolls come out. Look up Godwin's Law if you want proof.
Your house just blew me away when I saw the pictures here on your blog! To me, the funniest comment was about 'resale value' - it's sad that someone can look at the sort of labor of love that a modern idependent farm takes and think, "Yes, but what will it sell for."
I love your house! The colors are gorgeous and happy! So sorry that people make rude comments. Do they not realize you shared your home?
I did not know about Godwin's Law. Thanks for that. Interesting all this, considering I live in a vacuum most of the time.
I wish you and your family happiness in that beautiful, color filled house.
I, too, chuckled at the "resale value" comments. By their estimation, Mark Twain's quirky estate in Hartford would be a fixer-upper. Really, some people need to get their heads out of Zillow. Not everyone likes white walls and beige carpets. Your house is gorgeous!
I thought the article was a great showcase for your great, colorful, expressive house! And I love the vegetable!
I love your photos, and thanks for sharing your home. Your color sense is wonderful in your home and yarns. Feels like I am a part of your family. And I love in WY. Thanks again so much.
Hey Kristin!
I've been waiting for your house to show up on Houzz, so was happy to jump over and take a look when I got their email last weekend. I totally KNEW that you'd get lots of positive comments, and I also KNEW there would be some snarky ones in there as well! I am always amazed at what some people will say when they are protected by anonymity. Luckily, those of us in the world of craft blogs seem to be a fairly supportive, polite bunch, but the design blogs? Whoo nellie, people can get catty! These people failed kindergarten!
Anyway, your home is lovely, and your fearless use of color and pattern in it is truly inspiring!
What a fantastic tour of your house. I made a cup of tea and could almost feel that we were having a chat over the kitchen table. What a lovely home you've made. Unique!
A great tour through your home... thanks for sharing! I've always loved looking at the photos you occasionaly post.
I'm super inspired now by your lamp made from collected parts. I have a bunch of collected parts as well and hadn't thought of stacking them that way... brilliant (no lighting pun intended)!
Oh, and I didn't bother with the comments. I almost never do on most sites. We don't all have to agree, but so few people seem to know how to disagree without being obnoxious, rude and ugly.
Your house is wonderful and so reflective of you as an artist and your love of color. I pinned some of the pictures and got lots of repins - people loved it.
Great Articles both!
And, *IGNORE* the "ill-mannered"-Press! KARMA will eventually run-over Them whilst They're obsessively *texting* Their ignorance, in a Crosswalk against the Lights...
oh, BTW, if You ever want to increase that "RE-sale Value", *sign* Your WALLS! ;-D
I am a regular reader and love your house: you hippie artist you!
I loved your house and posted a comment saying so...people can just be so...well...some people just need to get a life...oh and I am Tammy from the sunflower workshop...as that is not my online name...
