Fall is fast and furiously doing its thing. The leaves are almost off the trees, the pastures are slowing down and you can tell that everyone - both human and animal - is getting ready for the coming of winter in New England. Wood is being cut and split, nuts are being gathered, and wool coats are growing longer and fluffier.
If you are a knitter or a crafter that means you are probably deep in Christmas gift mode, have bought some new yarns and/or fabrics, and are dreaming about all the things you are going to make this winter. Me too! I've been knitting every evening rushing through another project that I cannot reveal just yet.
To celebrate the arrival of the busy crafting season and also the 30th anniversary of Vogue Knitting Magazine, I've got a great giveaway this week. A selection of five books from Sixth and Spring Publishing - the publishing division of Soho, parent company to VK.
The folks at Vogue Knitting have been friends of mine for years. I appreciate the support they have given me when I worked at Classic Elite Yarns as Creative Director and more recently as an independent designer. They published my Color By Kristin Book too and were a joy to work with. More recently they have kicked off a series of live events called what else but Vogue Knitting Live. The next event is is this weekend in Chicago. I won't be teaching at this year's events (either Chicago or NYC) but hope to return next year when my new book is out. I am in full Christmas Gift Knitting Mode by knitting mostly socks, but some other surprises as well. The pattern I'm addicted to right now is the Multnomah Shawl. It seems I've always got one on the needles lately. In fact, at Rhinebeck this weekend I bought a "dedicated" circular needle just for Multnomah knitting!
I just knit my first Holden Shawlette and it turned out beautifully with the sparkly yarn I used. I'm also knitting handwarmers using twined knitting I just learned from Donna Kay at Rhinebeck. Must. Knit. Faster.

Wow! what a great selection! I have recently fallen in love with accessories again, mostly I knit sweaters for myself and my husband and since I feel like I have more than enough scarves and hats those have fallen by the wayside. BUT both my kids grew so much this summer that they need new hats and mittens so I have been stash busting and diving into some Fair Isle Hats for little heads! Can't put them down to get work knitting done either lol

Right not, I am working on a pair of Sebastian gloves. I want them to wear on an upcoming vacation and they will go nicely with my favorite hat.
Next up, I need projects to work on while traveling to London and Edinburgh. My plans are to work on a hat by a couple of Norwegian designers, Lise Kolstad and Tone Takle. The pattern is from a book from 1992. I'm not a big sock knitter, but I might bring sock yarn and pattern along, so I don't run out of knitting while I'm gone.
When I get back, I want to start a cardigan. Possibilities include your diamond panes pullover (made into a cardigan), a cardigan pattern from Rauma, or Lloie's cardigan from Schoolhouse Press.

I'm knitting a sweater with worsted yarn - I'm usually a fine-yarn knitter, so am enjoying how quickly the project is moving along. But, I'm also working on a rectangular lace shawl. When I pick it up I find it hard to put down until I've gotten through at least half of the chart that needs to be repeated 7 times. There are beads ever 15th row, so that is my start and finish marker :)

I am knitting the Noro Modular Afghan with Noro's Taiyo and it is addicting - I can't put it down! Hard to believe I am using one color but the variations on the various blocks are amazing - you never know what will happen next as you knit along. I would love to win those books; they all look great.
I am a member of a needlework group at my church. As such, this fall I'm knitting (and crocheting) blocks for, and assembling, the group afghan we're making for our associate pastor. As soon as that is finished, I'll be back to making mittens for charity. My favorite mitten pattern is Kate Gilbert's Gifted; I've made dozens of pairs using it.

I have been knitting away on a Mondo Cable Cardi in Malabrigo yarn. I like one-piece raglan sweaters because there is minimal finishing, but as you are knitting them, the rows get pretty L-O-N-G. I have also been cranking out Gaptastic cowls knit with Noro Kureyon. The colors, texture, and striping are irresistable.

I'm working on several modular knit baby blankets (with I-cord edging). There are five babies due in the spring that I want to honor-four to family members and one friend!

We loVe: Kristin's autumn leaves socks, be happy colorful socks, atlantic socks & dot and checks mittens.
For myself, I wish to make the boot toppers and circles, bobbles and stripes sweater, but with a v-neck. I'd like to make the coleus scarf, shortened to a cowl size, with buttons on one side, shorter version for biking. I also want to make the sweater-tunic, with a few modifications in Bergere de France.
If Saint Nicholas surprises me with yarn I REALLY want to knit a thick poncho, also in Bergere de France, its perfect for biking.
........ children's knit toys are on my list too.
Especially, from the Icelandic Knitter blog,Helene Magnusson, the Theodora dolls, with knitted traditional clothing.
