Mud Season.....

....... has arrived in western Massachusets! We had a couple of 50 plus degree weather days and the snow is starting to disappear in some places. It's going to be a rough couple of weeks with lots of mud and muck. There is no way to avoid it so we just go with it. Rubber boots are very important fashion accessories.

The lambs and ewes tend to stay in their greenhouse barn - unless it gets too hot - which it hasn't yet. Today we put down a layer of fresh bedding. It will look good for one or two days and then it will turn brown and dirty - especially if the rain comes which is predicted.

 

At least the bedding makes the humans feel better. I really don't think the sheep mind the mud at all. They just go with the flow. 

Look at the dirty knees on this lamb! This lamb is a Polypay cross. This is the second year with the large Polypay ram. His genes are supposed to bring a little more prolific genes to our flock. His first ewe lambs should begin lambing soon.

 

This lamb must have taken a sliding header along that dirty side of his face. Too cute. 

While I was taking these photos, this ewe would not stop baahhhhing. I love this photo.

 

Here's another totally photogenic ewe. She has yet to lamb.
