If you have been reading this blog for over a year, you may remember that I flew to Detroit on New Year's Day 2007. Detroit PBS was taping a new t.v. show called Knit and Crochet Today. I did three segments - one on embroidery on knits, one on socks and one on felting.
The other night my good friend Linda who lives close to Boston called me practically jumping through the phone. "You're on WGBH now!" Wow - how exciting to hear that the show is finally airing and in a big market like Boston. It was on their "Creates" channel where they also show cooking, gardening, woodworking and more. How perfect! I was anxious, of course. She said I did a good job and didn't sound dumb. Thank goodness.
From what I hear, Knit and Crochet Today is going to be on lots of major PBS t.v. stations this winter. So check your local listings and tune in! I have heard they will be taping another season's worth of shows which is great news, isn't it?
And if Knit and Crochet Today isn't playing on your local PBS station, don't be shy. Ask them to feature it. Here's a handy form to use. We knitters and crocheters have got to be vocal about our craft, otherwise media outlets don't know how many of us there are that are interested!
If you are a retailer, approach your local PBS station about sponsoring Knit and Crochet Today. It is very reasonable and certainly will give your store a higher profile by being connected to PBS.
Here are some crocheted flowers to brighten up your winter day. You can read more about them here. Hard to believe that summer will ever be back again. Our temperatures have been below zero for a few days. The seed catalogs are arriving and it's about time to start browsing and ordering. It is never too cold to think about sunflowers and zinnias.
What are you knitting or crocheting today?
For some reason I have been doing lace lately. I am knitting for a co-worker a red lace stole.scarf. I know that my hubby's sweater needs arms, but I have to be in the mood, and it just hasn't struck me yet. I also have a bright pink aran sweater/cardigan that needs sleeves, hmmm I am spotting a trend here!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip on Knitting and Crochet Today. I am in the Chicago land area and found it on two PBS stations LakeShore and WYCC. Will be looking for your guest appearance, can't wait. What am I knitting, "Sure Fire" Susan B. Anderson Hat Pattern out of Donegal wool for my teenage son....was a Christmas present, I'm finishing.
ReplyDeleteYou got me so excited but then I searched my PBS magazine and saw that the show is only available to digital/cable subscribers. Unfortunately, I think we're the last non-cable (for T.V.) household in America :-(

Lovely flowers, so bright and sunny. That bit of embroidery adds so much to them.
ReplyDeleteI want to see that pbs show, I'll have to check out the availability in my area. It is cold here, too, bitter really. Hopefully Minnesota will be a little warmer by February.
I am knitting more than I could list here but I just posted on Giacomo's Baby Hat which I finished yesterday. It is a cute free pattern.
Take care.
I just bought a book of crochet edges because it also had a bunch of flower motifs. I want to make a crochet bolero of my own design with a lacey flower pattern.
ReplyDeleteI looked for you on Ravelry, but didn't find you. I did see your patterns, though. I'm sure your yarn is there, too.
I was going to tell you that I saw you on two of the shows last weekend! It was weird because I have never watched that channel before. I was flipping through and just happened to notice- knitting, quilting. Wow! I watched that channel for the next 3 or 4 hours and happened to get a bunch of crochet squares done during that time. Fun shows. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWell that's exciting! I'll be looking for the show. For those of you in the Chicago area it would be Channel 11.
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact I'm crocheting flowers today too!

I was surfing after the news the other night and found it on our PBS station here in Canada! Congrats.

ReplyDeleteI feel like The Farmer.
The Friend.
Congratulations! I'll keep an eye out for it out here :)
ReplyDeleteI saw your new book at the store today and almost bought it. Then I decided it would be better to order it from you. I love those little crochet flowers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the form to request that show on our local PBS station - I have submitted it.
ReplyDeleteThese days I am knitting the Modern Quilt Wrap, four different pairs of socks (actively, a Noro Booga bag. Then there are several pairs (3) of socks on hiatus, a sweater, another bag to be felted.
Love your blog! It's cold here too!
Did you see the article in the Times about small farms on Martha's Vinyard? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/23/dining/23vine.html?_r=1&scp=2&sq=cape+cod&st=nyt&oref=slogin

ReplyDeleteI'm in New Zealand where it is summer - but the knitting goes on. I bought your book from Borders in my city on Wednesday, and have just about finished my version of the Bullseye Beanie, translated into a different gauge. The default yarn in New Zealand that we all learnt to knit on and make so many garments from is double knitting - 22 sts and 30 rows to 10 cms. So, I used different colours from my stash.
We do of course have lots of yarn varieties here. However, it's fun to see what's available elsewhere. I visit California each year to see my son, daughter in law and grandson, so it's a chance to pretend to be a US knitter. Will certainly follow up your yarn this year when I go.
I do like your book very much - wonderfully inventive shapes, textures and colour combinations.

Thanks for the link; I requested my local PBS station to carry the series. I hope it does!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the TV shows. I know what it's like to worry if you sounded OK... hubby and I sing and this morning they taped us for a show tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteIt airs before I typically wake up and I'm not sure I want to change my schedule to hear myself sound too chatty again. I know we sang well, at any rate.
I am working on a pair of DK-weight socks for me, they seemed thick when I started them but since it was 5 degrees this morning I wish they were bulky now!
I also crocheted (rare for me) a small penguin, got all the pieces made up but need to sew them all together. It's for my brother the geek, he'll love it.
Wish I could see your embroidery show in particular, but we don't have a good way to watch TV here. Your book is fabulous... recommended it to a knitting student this week.
I just made my first sock! I have made many sweaters, hats, and fingerless gloves, but this was my first sock - so easy, why didn't I do it sooner???
