Once again, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Baby raccoons and now an owl all in two days. I had my camera and snapped. He flew into the woods deeper and I zoomed and snapped again. We sat there staring at each other and then I remembered the field trip. Late again.
After the long winter, it’s amazing how much wildlife we are seeing. Everyone is out and about, including the humans.
Does anyone know what kind of owl he is? I think he may be a spotted owl according to this owl website. I hope I see him/her again. What luck.

I'm slow...I've just noticed that the kitten picture has a name. Templeton. What a great name. Conjures up visions of English butlers, but I bet he's named after the mouse from Charlotte's Web, who eats too much at the fair, right? I have a cat named Kingsley, because he always behaved as if he deserved royal treatment.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely owl! It looks like a Barred Owl - I believe they frequent this area, and it looks just like the one I saw at my grandparent's cottage in NH. It doesn't really matter what the species is though, you got a great photo! It's so nice that you saw it with your daughter - so many people never see an owl - I made my 79 year old grandma trek out in the woods so she could see the one I found! ReplyDeleteBeautiful. You've really gotten some spectacular shots the past couple of days. I want to live where you do. The most wildlife we get around here are the squirrels who waddle by to steal the cat food.

ReplyDeleteI'm a birder AND a knitter, and yep, it's a barred owl (spotted owls are only in the western U.S) They're generally secretive so you're lucky to get such a great view!!
ReplyDeleteI can see you were just as excited at seeing an owl as I was. We had one nesting in our tree and I occassionally caught glimpses of the father gliding about with food. But one day the baby showed itself for hours - it was a lovelt sght and one I may not see again.
