Pests

This year we seem to be plagued by uninvited critters. At our pumpkin patch, beavers have been causing farming misery. In our yard, the mama raccoon has killed two of our hens to feed her babies. At our house, our carpenter friend Steve discovered termites.

Needless to say, we are trying to eradicate the pests so that our house doesn’t fall down and our fields can remain being farmed. Living with nature is a tricky balance for all. As for the chickens, that’s why I raise replacement hens every year.

There’s always something, isn't there?

  1. and from that photo perhaps you're being visited by the dread moskweetos! I hope not. if so approach them as you have decided to deal with those nasty wasps.

Love the zinnia embroidery from your earlier post. You should develop those as a pattern. I'm off to buy your stitchery "bible"

cheers and have a happy 4th.

  2. There is definitely always something. Two weeks ago my son, Jordan (22), and my granddaugher, his neice, Emma Belle (5) came home to find a 3 1/2 foot snake in our living room. Good thing it wasn't me, I'd have run out of the house and we would have never found the snake. I guess there are not just pros for living in the country, but cons as well. The pros far out weight the cons though.

  4. I didn't know raccoons would kill chickens, I thought they'd just steal the eggs. The only thing that kills our chickens is the neighbor dog. We must be really lucky with all the wild predators we have around.
