So excited to present you all with the photos from Color By Kristin Book Three published by Classic Elite Yarns for my Color By Kristin Yarn. Susan Mills, the Creative Director at CEY, and Betsy, CEY's owner, wanted to give knitters who prefer working with wool and animal fibers a new collection to knit and crochet with this spring and summer.
There are six patterns in Book Number Three. Most of the projects are accessory based. They are fun and colorful and not too challenging. The granny cowl is called Tommie and Susan designed it. Talk about Granny Chic! Love this.
Like the past two Color By Kristin Books, the projects are named after our kitties. We are running out of cat names! This pretty scarf named Cole is a cross between a shawl and a scarf. I designed it. It is knit in the round with a steek that is then cut and fringed back to make the trim. At the end, I added the centers of the flowers in Spider Web Stitch embroidery. The nice thing about making a scarf in the round this way is you don't have to knit many inches and it is complete! In the round is the only way to go for Fair Isle Two Color knitting if you ask me.
Here is a back view.
Mia is a bag designed by Tian Foley. It has a cabled base and a bit of colorwork at the top in an easy to remember Fair Isle Pattern. What a cute market bag or book bag.
Next up is Nat. It is a tiny cowl that can be worn under a coat as a turtleneck to keep the chill away. Not much knitting in this one. I designed and knit it in a "afghan" stitch which mimics the crochet ripple. It's a great pattern to use to experiment with color and to use up odds and ends. I worked it back and forth and then seamed it because the pattern worked easier (read - less frustrating!) back and forth as opposed to in the round.
And now for my favorite design in Book Three - It is called Brie. I made the easy garter stitch scarf first. At the bottom of one end I added a multi-color sunflower design. This sunflower is NOT in my new book 50 Sunflowers to Knit, Crochet and Felt. It is new for this pattern. We dressed Emily the model in a Mary Poppins style hat and made a band of real sunflowers. So fun.
All of the photos were shot here at the farm last September when the sunflowers were blooming like mad. They made a great backdrop to the colorful knits.
You
can purchase the book at your local yarnstore or directly from CEY.
Cost is $10.95. You can also purchase single patterns in automatic PDF download format via the CEY website.

I like to knit with wool and wool blends. I'm not too fond of knitting with cotton, though I like wearing cotton. I hope to finish a cardigan I started over 2 years ago. I really need to finish up a few UFOs.Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI like socks or something frivolous and light.

I am plugging away at what is currently on the needles which is a cardigan for me and a pullover for the hubby. I still knit in the summer, but i have the fan on and a tall glass of lemonade close by!

A few summers ago I started knitting myself a summer sweater every spring and summer and using something other than wool. Last year I knit Cinnie from ChicKnits using Classic Elite's Firefly yarn. It turned out great and I am getting a a lot of use out of it. I hope to start this year's sweater this weekend using CE's Allegoro. And of course there is always a lace project on the needles, but that is true year around.

Pretty new patterns! I don't think my crochet project or yarn choices change much seasonally (other than due to whichever birthdays or gift events are happening when). I may choose to make fewer hats or scarves in the summer than the winter, just because they're not on my mind then, and I might not make a giant blanket then, but the outside temperature doesn't go into consideration much when I'm choosing what to make.
ReplyDeleteI too like to knit animal fibers year round. I am just never satisfied with the outcome of cotton and bamboo for some reason! And during this summer I have a couple of (yes - wool!) sweaters planned along with some lace shawls and socks. Guess I will be hoping for cooler days and maybe a little air conditioning!
ReplyDelete(lajakuc@gmail.com)
What gorgeous projects! I always love your colorful designs.
ReplyDeleteI knit in the summer, spring, winter and fall - all year long! Even in the summer months I'm usually working with wool for those winter items. PLUS, I'm always making socks on our antique sock machine for our small sock business.

I knit all year long. I knitted my daughter's wedding veil from Missouri lace weight wool. I like knitting with wool as well as acrylics. Actually I just love to knit. The only thing I didn't like was a cotton/bamboo yarn. The project turned out beautiful but the yarn seem to split quite a bit. Thanks for the giveway.
ReplyDeleteI do knit some with cotton or cotton blends/bamboo/silk/linen during the summer--but I also knit with wool, my favorite fiber, no matter the time of year.
ReplyDeleteI just turn up the air knit with wool and wool blends. Velda my email is vjferguson@comcast.net
ReplyDeleteI'm just getting back to knitting from a 3-decade hiatus...(geez, I can't be THAT old...lol) This summer I plan to knit several baby items as my 10th grand (6 boys were first - the last 4 are girls) will make her appearance in late July. I have also planned to knit one lace shawl for my daughter and one just for me!

Dear Kristin,
ReplyDeletefor this summer, I've planned to knit a top down cardi. By the way, I've got your newsletter, but all the links to your new homepage didn't work, even when I tried it by going via google. Have a very nice weekend, Martina
I do knit with cotten in the summer as it is wearable 75% of the year here. But, Alpaca is my favorite with wool close behind.

ReplyDeleteI love to knit with wool all year round. Since most places I frequent are air conditioned, heat isn't a problem; although if I'm going to be outside, I prefer to work on a sock.
ReplyDeleteI have three cardigans to knit for my daughter planned for this summer.

I usually knit with wool year round. Thanks--the patterns look great!

I knit mainly with wool all year round. I do tend to go for fingering or lace weight yarn in the summer. Plus smaller projects to avoid that mass of heavy wool in my lap on a hot day. Shawls, socks and other accessories in the summer - save those cabled sweaters and afghans for cozy winter knitting!
ReplyDeleteHi I love to knit any time of the year. I especially love cotton yarn for dish cloths and wool blend for mittens for my daughters kindergarten class for Christmas presents.
ReplyDeleteDishcloths! I make dishcloths in the summer - and sometimes hats and mittens for winter! I knit year round. paulsons4@arvig.net
ReplyDeleteI love your new website, it is so you with the gorgeous colours! In summer, I like to knit or crochet dishcloths. I don't stop knitting any day of the year!
ReplyDeleteTy for the contest!

I like to knit socks in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI knit year round and will knit whatevery strikes my fancy during the summer. Usually socks and shawls but I have also knit hats and mittens to get gifts out of the way or to make up a set for myself. This summer, I want to finish up a sweater or vest and have some socks and shawls planned.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm *off* the NEEDLES for a bit and back on the HOOK for the moment... Just in the middle of a cotton Afghan right now. Done in "Majolica" colours! sorta...
ReplyDelete:-D I'll send you a pic when I'm done...
Then later, I'll be back to knitting Hats for my Christmas craft shows... It never stops really. I just go where my STASH takes me...
I knit all year long. I have several projects going at all times. I have 9 sheep (4 are pregnant) so wool is my favorite fiber. I knit socks and hats a lot in the summer. I usually also have fall cardigans for my grandchildren on my needles in the summer. Thank you for the opportunity and for your blog.
ReplyDeleteJane
Because I'm a teacher, I do most of my traveling in the summer. Socks are my favorite travel knitting.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I have a strong preference for wool all year round.
I knit all year long. I tend to knit mainly with wool but in the summer my projects get smaller, like socks so that they don't sit in my lap.

I like to knit hats in the summer for Christmas giving. One of these days I'm going to learn how to knit socks!
ReplyDeleteit is great to knit with wools and wool blends, but cotton is fun too. I knit the same things all year round cuz I never finish things timely...........
ReplyDeleteFracksmom
Sadly, I am so addicted to knitting that I knit exactly the same in the summer as the winter - sweaters, socks, shawls, mittens, blankets, whatever. I love the shor sleeved sweater and the flower shawl/scarf.
ReplyDeleteIt's wool & wool blends for me. Warm weather = smaller projects, often for holiday gifting- socks, mitten, gloves.
ReplyDeleteCute short sleeve sweater and sunflower scarf.

Wool is my fave, for summer, socks and some lace weight projects, depending on the heat. I do have some "other than wool yarn" I purchased years ago that I intend to make into "something". Love the new project though, the Granny Cowl has my name on it. Thanks for the giveaway. (Lightinabook@Gmail.com)
ReplyDeleteI'll knit with animal fiber year 'round. This summer's to-do list is a couple baby sweaters and then maybe an attempt to make a dent in my queue.
ReplyDeleteI work on Christmas presents during the summer.I usually make hats and mittens or scarves. They're small and portable and I don't have that last minute hurry up and get it done feeling in December. I'd love to win your new book-all the patterns are lovely !! I'm robcroknit on Rav
ReplyDeleteIn the summer I knit lace projects; shawls mostly. They are light weight and I find my hands don't stick to the yarn as easily.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for some warmer weather to sit on the front deck & knit whatever! I prefer wool for sure! Love the feel! Currently doing socks for myself. Have some ideas for a few things for a new great grand due in June.

In the Summer I knit socks, lacy scarves and washcloths. Anything small and not too heavy in my lap. Don't mind wool or cotton or a mix.

ReplyDeleteHello Kristin,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to win your new book! I'm planning a toy by Susan B Anderson, a lightweight baby sweater in sock yarn, a shawl, and maybe some cotton face cloths....all light and relaxed. No pressure for the summer!

I will knit anything in the summer; I just pick the project that fits whether I am knitting in a/c or out in the heat! However, this summer my goal is to finish some UFOs I have neglected and increase my sock collection. But I also want to do more sewing and there is work that gets in the way!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love the Delilah sweater and the Mia bag. You can reach me at endersDOTcjATgmailDOTcom
In the summer I like to knit small projects like stuffed animals. I love the new patterns!
ReplyDeleteTypically I do less knitting in the summer, but my brother's getting married at the end of August, and I want to knit him and his fiancee a beautiful blanket. I should have started it sooner so I wouldn't have a lap full of wool in 90 degree weather!
ReplyDeleteI'm a super slow knitter. I'm usually knitting in summer whatever I started to knit in winter.
ReplyDeleteflgirl1987 AT yahoo DOT com
I really love the granny square cowl--but all the designs are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI knit with animal fibers year round. My summer projects tend to be smaller items though, like hats, fingerless mitts, cowls, granny squares.....and now socks! It helps me get a jump on Christmas gifts! Thanks for the giveaway! Oh! I'm trailridr24 on Ravelry!
ReplyDeleteI tend to knit accessories and lace. Love Brie. Makes me smile to see it.
ReplyDeleteAs long as I can knit in air conditioning, I love to knit all summer on anything. If I knit outside (in the shade!) I knit small things like socks or bags. I have a beautiful crochet bag (Crocheted Swirling Bag) I found on Ravelry set aside to work on after some other projects are finished. I do love cotton and cotton blends as well as wool and wool blends!
ReplyDeleteTwo summers ago, I knit lace. Last summer, the Color Affection and mitts. All these projects were wool blends. I have some cotton in my stash but I tend to knit wool.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this opportunity Kristin.
I'm always a big fan of knitting baby blankets. It's a fun way to learn a new stitch and I have a stash of them. I'm ready for any baby shower! This summer I think I'm going to focus on socks because I have such envy for bloggers who have shown their collection.
ReplyDeleteDuring last summer I loved crocheting grocery/produce bags with colorful cotton. I made over 20 and gave them to all of my son's teachers,PT, OT, speech therapists, office staff for the holidays as he attends a school for special needs. They are amazing!
ReplyDeleteKristin over the years you have brought such joy to me from your blog to old magazine issues that have featured your farm, family and home. Thanks,

From Florida the land of eternal summer!! I always have a prayer shawl on the needles, they are usually blends. This summer a niece has a baby due in June so I have bought some beautiful cotton yarn to make a baby sweater..I had better get busy! Around July I start thinking about Christmas gifts so I have a chance of completing them. Just love that scarf with the sunflowers on the ends!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristin,
ReplyDeleteI like wool best, but I also knit with cotton and acrylic. In the summer, I like lace and I'm always making socks (of wool). I do sometimes switch to thread crochet when traveling (less room, more labor intensive, lasts longer.)

The hotter it gets, the less likely I am to knit with wool, but I have been working on a sweater for my son-in-law for two years. This might be the year that I finish it. Reason for delay: pattern is very badly written. I think I might make some fingerless gloves for my granddaughter. It's what she requested.
ReplyDeleteMy knitting seriously slows down in the summer, being replaced by hours spent outdoors in the garden. However, when I do pick up my knitting, I like to sit in a shady spot outside with a small project that's not hot and heavy on my lap! I have never knitted socks, but think about starting every summer, maybe this summer will be it!

I knit socks in the summer. I go through mad dishcloth phases in the summer when I pick up colorful cottons. I have to have small, portable projects in the summer because it seems we are always on the go.
ReplyDeleteI once knit an aran sweater in the summer, but I usually knit on socks, scarves, mittens and hats -- year round. I enjoy knitting colorful fair isle/nordic designs best of all; good thing too--most of my family is of nordic heritage.

My favorites of these new patterns are Cole, Mia & Brie.
I knit all year, every moment I can. Knitting is my constant therapy, Yarn Therapy. yum.
Summer projects will be many of the sunflowers in your new book Kristin. Also, I'd like to knit a whole flock of the robins ! They are just delightful.
Otherwise, trying to finish some of my items on the amazingly long UFO list. Socks, mittens, dolls, hats, plenty o' toy animals, especially kitties & now my Mom just gifted me a beautiful shawl kit, with YARN !!

What do I knit in the summer? I begin knitting hats for people who live in cold climates and keep them until early December until I can send them to Chicago for giving away to whoever needs a warm hat.

Here in SoCal, Summer lasts from April to October! I knit for a lot of people who don't really "do" handknits in their wardrobe. They like to toss things in the washer (and hopefully remember to not then move it to the dryer!)so I mostly knit with acrylic blends.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE knitting with bamboo because of the drape, softness, and lightweight. Planning on a tank, 3/4 sleeve top, and starting my Christmas gift knitting in August (hats, cozies, nerdy stuff)

I like to knit smaller things in the summer, because I like to knit with wool, and it gets too hot in Texas to knit anything too large! Cotton hurts my hands after a long time knitting; wool never does. I'm currently knitting fingerless gloves from your last book! I adore the colors of your yarn, and will be making Tommie for my daughter, who is headed off to college in the fall! I'd love to win, and I'm whitknits on Ravelry.

Socks are always a go-to favorite. I also really like hats. I just try to switch to lighter yarns. I live in Alabama, so summer REALLY means summer. During the 110 degree months (July and August), we southerners stay inside in the 72 degree AC, and knit up warm things for the upcoming fall and winter. (ravelry: kates77)
ReplyDeleteI don't really change my knitting projects in the summer, I just crank up the air conditioning! haha Love knitting with wool year round.
ReplyDeleteI knit nearly every day of the year with all kinds of fibers. I like cottons with some blend to prevent any stretching. My favorite is the cotton/wool blend. My favorite item to knit is baby-toddler sweaters!
ReplyDeleteI have been doing a lot in cotton for gifts. I have avoided wool since I am allergic to it but recently at a knit shop I was introduced to some that might not irritate my skin, so am thinking of trying it on a small project. I don't discriminate based on the season... besides, if I want a new sweater for fall, I need to be starting about now! After all, my house has air conditioning.
ReplyDeleteI knit all year 'round, and don't usually knit with cottons. I do use blends and acrylics, but don't actively seek them out in hotter weather. We recently adopted a baby, so I'll be spending the summer trying to make things ahead of time for the winter months. We'll see how that goes. LOL.
ReplyDeletesdummer knitting for me consists of bamboo, tencel, any blends of silk and cotton or wool that all feel cool to the touch. that's how I know it will be a great warm weather knit crochet shell or tee. If I do need to work with wool or alpaca in the warmer weather I make sure it's comething that is motifs or small pieces that will be joined later so I am not getting heated up under a garment. I tend to do ore purchases in the summer as well. Probably because the selection of summer yarns, paper, jute, straw, raffia, sugar cane, corn is more readily available.
