Amazing Mother Nature

I've been wanting to make a video of a sheep giving birth for a couple of years. I bought Julia a "Flip Camera" for a Christmas gift knowing I would have as much fun with it as she would!

Two weekends ago we were lucky enough to witness several sheep giving birth. This video is of an older cross-bred Romney ewe giving birth to a single, giant lamb. The birth took place over about 30 minutes but I've edited it down for you.
Enjoy our little slice of rural life and the amazingness of Mother Nature.

Cool video.
Good film editing Kristin but the cross overs could have been smoother.

Thank you so much for putting that together for us all!!! It was wonderful. I was so excited to show my children and now I will show my mom and sister. What an exciting time lambing must be! Although I know your husband will be glad for all the work of it to be over! Thanks again!

That's amazing....a miracle, every time. Thanks for sharing, and thanks to the ewe and lamb, too...

I know how tiny those cameras are and I think you did a great job with it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! What a beautiful sharing.

I am curious - just how big does a lamb need to be to be considered "huge"? What would be a normal size? Mom didn't seem to be in any distress during the birth even though her baby was bigger than normal.

How precious they are. I was fortunate enough to watch a foaling years ago and never cease to be amazed at the strength of animals. We humans scream and beg for drugs and are so weak in comparison

I'm glad you helped the mom out in the last minutes!

It is amazing how the sounds, sights and smells of lambing days stay with you even if it has been seven years. I so very much enjoyed this video of ewe mama and her single "gigantic" lamb (memories of those too). Thank you from someone who has been there and witnessed lambing firsthand...a quintessential part of my past life that I wouldn't change for anything. You did a fine job, yes, a fine job indeed!

I may never be the same again.

My favorite part was when the ewe was licking off the placenta and stared at the camera, as if to say, " yuck this is hard work."

Congrats, however, on your first video.

Wonderful video Kristin. That ewe looked very relieved to be done pushing out Lily. (Great name Julia!) I've never seen a lambing and this was wonderful to see - I've only seen kittens being born. The ending shot of the 3 lambs napping was perfect.

That was great! It reminded me how much I miss being on a sheep farm this time of the year.

How many bottle babies do you have?

This is sooooooooo precious! And mama is just as precious as baby. She looks at the camera as if she's saying 'see what a good mommy I am?" A very good mommy indeed! The miracle of birth never ceases to amaze me.
