The other day, a yearling had a lamb in the pasture. She did great.
Now the lamb is grazing with the rest of the flock and doing great. Spring lambs are much easier for a shepherd than winter lambs. Very rarely is there work to be done and the mama takes care of the baby.
Happy Mother's Day to all of you mothers out there.

Spring lambs makes a lot more sense to me than winterlambs...I don't know of anyone in Norway that gets winterlambs. But several of those that have milkgoats, have moved birth from Jan/Feb back to Oct/Nov, to be able to deliever milk all year round. The dairy started making a new, fresh goats cheese, and needed fresh milk the whole year, so the farmers adjusted. I'm sure the sheepfarmers would have adjusted too, if there was a demand for it.
Thank you for writing this blog, I enjoy both your farmstories and your art.
Have a lovely mothers day!
What a cutie! Your sheep and pasture are just gorgeous, I love seeing photos of them here.
what a sweet image for Mother's Day. Thank you!
Hi Kristen,
I will call you soon to hook up so I can take pictures of the sheep for my illustration references. Lots has happened to me, lost my job 2 weeks ago, but have 10 months severance. Time to figure out next stage of life. Illustration and... teaching maybe. Nice Mom's Day image. What a cutie!
Talk to you soon... Linda Tajirian, Hartford, CT
Lovely pic of Mom and baby. Just a thought here in reference to your dialup and not being able to respond to comments. I know a blogger who periodically does a whole blog post that contains answers and responses to comments. This way she doesn't have to spend time trying to comment to each one. She just compiles a post of all the info that is needed. I really enjoy reading those posts. Thanks again for the Mom's day pic and for producing such a nice blog.
