Just a quick pop-in to say we are fine here on our farm - sheep, lambs, dogs, cats, chickens and oh yeah, the farmers. We got lots of wind, rain, thunder and lightening but nothing devastating. After the storm cleared, we spent a few hours moving the sheep into a new pasture. We watched the gray clouds blow away, white wispy ones appear and then blue sky before dark. It is an amazingly gorgeous day here today. The heat and humidity is gone and Mark is off to the South Hadley Farmers Market.
Nature is a strong and powerful force. As farmers we work with it everyday. There is no working against it because it is not possible.... we just have to go with it. I know this more than ever as we try to grow out our sheep and lambs and keep them safe, healthy and happy. I barely watch the news anymore because most of it just doesn't affect my day to day life at all. Call me ignorant but I didn't even know there were tornado warnings. Not much I could have done about it anyway. I remember when I had an office job and my co-workers used to get so worked up about snow and storms. I never did see the point because half the time they never materialized.
The tornadoes hit about 30 miles south of here and they are still assessing the damage. Pray for them. You can donate here. Thanks so much to everyone who has been e-mailing and wondering how we are! You all are fabulous to think of us.

Glad to hear all is OK out there... we're fine in Southern NH as well. The tornadoes didn't touch down here, thankfully.
I'm glad that you did not have storm damage. It always surprises me to hear of a tornado in New England. I remember the great surprise when the tornado struck Worcester in 1953. Before then we had never heard of such weather in the area.
you were the first person I thought of...so glad you and the family are unharmed. our thoughts and prayers are with the people in Mass.

When I heard that Mass. got hit, thought of You Guys! -- We had clear-sky-high-winds HERE [Ottawa] yesterday. Our front lawn 35ft Spruce finally blew down... onto the House... NO damage! It just plopped into a corner between the house and garage. Very ANTI-climatic actually after spending 4 hours watching IT, *waiting* for WHEN it would happen!
Anyone need a few SPRUCE mini logs..?

When I heard about the tornadoes I had to look up the towns on google maps to see if they were near you or my brother who lives closer to Nashua. Was so relieved to find you all were fine. We had a few tornadoes in Northern California the same day - it's been such unusual weather for us. Usually the rainy season is long gone by now in the Bay Area.
glad to hear all is well at your place! My mom says they missed the winds but had hail the size of apples...lol, she is not looking forward to checking her roof out, it's metal. We had a tornado touch down just 20 miles from us while camping this past holiday weekend. No lives lost though and minimal damage. Crazy weather everywhere this year!

These days, farmers are some of the few people who realize how powerful nature is. Us city folk tend to think (wrongly!) that we've got it under control!

I'm with you on not watching the news. So much bad stuff out there (and plenty of stupid stuff, too). I do tend to check the weather reports because of the animals. It's in the 90's today, so big fans are on in the barn for the sheep and the alpacas have had a cooling shower.
