Hurricane Irene Visits Western Massachusetts and Vermont

We are fine here at the farm. Didn't lose power but we got lots and lots of rain. Luckily we live on a hill. I honestly feel rather safe and secure in our home. It was built in 1751. I figure it has withstood so much that we can't even imagine. Many of the hilltowns - especially Shelburne Falls and Brattleboro - around us did not fare as well. Here are some amazing links to some videos.

I am worried about Rachel at Knit Or Dye - her business is just up from the flooding shown here on this video. There will be a very long recovery period. Route 91 is still closed three days later.

I am so glad that you, your family, and animals are all safe, but am very sorry for all the difficulties that so many people have to face on the East Coast.

I am so glad that all is well with you! Broke my heart to see Shelborne Falls get hit so hard.

so glad you made it through well. My mom in NH is trying to dry out. For the first time the water almost came in the house, she is used to being surrounded as it sits almost island like each spring and she escapes in her kayak. This time it came up so fast, she lost all this coming winters firewood and the motorcycles. She feels lucky though as neighbors are still completely under water.

Wow! We used to live in Williamstown and it's crazy to see all this flooding. Glad you are OK, but sad to see all the devastation. Water is a powerful force, isn't it.

What a relief to know that you and yours are all doing well. I am so sorry to hear of all the damage and sorrow around you, however. Sending prayers to all those who are starting a recovery period to put things right again.

Glad all is well on your farm and with your family. Our power held strong, but many schools are closed in Maryland and Virginia.

Was wondering about you and yours, and then there was your blog post in the email box. Phew! The devastation in western MA and VT is beyond belief. Thanks for the video links.

Glad you are safe. My cousin in VT had to go to a shelter. 5 feet of water in her house.

I live in southern Rhode Island...on the coast. We were so blessed...we had high winds, very little rain, and no electricity for three days but had it restored last night. Many are expected to be without power through the holiday weekend...a small inconvenience compared to your little corner of the world.

I'm a frequent visitor to the Berkshires and your pictures brought tears to my eye...one is worse than the next. You're in my thoughts and prayers
