Two Sides

The zinnias are making their last furious gasps in my cutting garden. How I will miss them. Every year I grow a few rows to keep my vases stocked with the bright and cheerful blooms.

Even the backside of these simple garden flowers are designed incredibly well by Mother Nature.

I love all kinds of flowers but zinnias and sunflowers are probably my current faves. What is your current favorite flower? Please tell.

The zinnias did particularly well this year, so they are currently my favorites. I tend to overdo the marigolds, too. From seeing your sunflower pics, I definitely need to diversify my sunflower picks.

Zinnias! But I didn't plant enough. More next year!

Sadly in our present home we do not get enough sun to grow any big bloomers... hostas and impatiens are about it. But had I the sun and garden enough I would fill it with peonies, zinnia, gerberas, sunflowers and phlox.

Before seeing the photo of your zinnias I would have said sun flowers were my favorite.

My favorite flower? I'd have to say lilies of the valley. But then, irises are high on my list...so are daisies. There's nothing like a vase of daisies to brighten my day. Can't forget daffodils. They usher in spring & I'm always ready for that. Let's just say (fill in the blank) are my favorite!

Sweet peas for their incredible smell and irises for their color.

My favorite is peonies. Such a short season for them but so beautiful and fragrant!

Gosh these are pretty! I love my roses and my French and Spanish lavender. The wispy stalks blowing in the breeze are just lovely!

Living in a townhome, I'm limited to deck flowers but currently have 1 giant coleus left after the frost. Love petunias for their sweet smell & prolific growth. We in Minnesota have an even shorter growing season than you! I miss the garden roses, gladiolas & irises of my past gardens.

Those are beautiful! I'm currently in love with the lime green ornamental sweet potato vine. I know it's not a flower, but I appreciate how hardy and beautiful it's been during our very hot and dry summer. Thanks for sharing the photos!

Well, right now where I live, my chrysanthemum are just starting to burst forth in gorgeous yellow, white, rust, orange and light and dark magenta. I LOVE them, and they are freshening up some bland flower beds that have been sadly colorless for a while. September colors in big bunches. Yes!

What beautiful photographs! I love that second one. It would make such a pretty framed print.

My garden was mainly composed of perennials, but your Sunflower pictures convinced me to diversify and add annuals. They add color and cheer the entire summer. I planted four different varities of zinnias this year and am still getting beautiful color in my gardens

Your beautiful zinnias look like crocheted flowers. This is the first year I planted impatiens in pots and just last week they doubled in height!! Perhaps because it's cooler, shorter sun time?

I truly love Alstromeria - Peruvian Lilies. They bloom in masses in my garden during the early summer. The only problem is that when they die back, there is nothing to behold and it is difficult to overplant due to their tubers. I had the good fortune to visit Argentina this past February where our hikes were filled with the sight of wild, golden Alstromeria covering meadows, mountain sides and tucked back in thickets. Memorable!

My favorite are pansies. Out of season, alas. We had a good run of zinnias this summer but now are down to roses and mums. Yum!

This year I'm growing calendulas in a mix of colors (my zinnia seedlings failed) and really enjoying them. But I think my favorite of all, just for the flower, is morning glories. You can't pick them, they don't last, I can't even photograph their real color, but they are so graceful and perfect for that brief moment that I can't get enough of them.

Oh gosh...I love ALL flowers, too many to choose. Even the blooms of herbs are awesome. I've been known to pick a bunch of wildflowers for the table too. God's beauty abounds...
