Checking In Before 2012

Having a busy Christmas/New Year week. Here's the new addition to our farm....

Meet Kate - BCIT - that would be Border Collie in Training. New puppy! Big challenge. Fingers crossed she is a worker. She comes from great stock - her mama is from The Gould Farm in Shelburne, MA. Edgar Gould was one of the great Border Collie Men in his day importing talented dogs from Scotland to the States. His family is carrying on his tradition. We are very lucky to have one of their pups.

Here's a photo of Julia's boots, puppy Kate and Phoebe to give you an idea of the scale.

There are some noses out of joint, for sure.

Busy week..... Lots of traveling around, visiting, doing all we should over the Christmas holiday. Back to work tomorrow - Julia and I will be at the Amherst Farmers Market on Saturday (tomorrow the 31st).

Happy 2012 everyone! I'll be back after the New Year. I'll leave you with some sparkling lights from our home to yours.....

A new pup? How fun. And, a lot of work. I know what I would do differently the next time. I'm sure, especially with a working dog that a lot of dicipline is involved.
Happy New Year!

What beautiful, soulful eyes!! She is a true beauty and I'm sure will be a great "sheeper".

Congratulations on the new puppy! I hope she grows up to be everything you wish for. Lord knows, a good BC is worth it's weight in gold when it comes to handling sheep!

You've got to use that top photo of Kate for greeting cards. I would buy a stack of them!

"K-K-K-Katy,beautiful Katy!" ... I looked at that picture and thought about what might be going through her head -- Perhaps drams of future sheep being turned into a pen using her natural skills honed by working with The Farmer!

I look forward to hearing about the first chapter in the story of Kate as the Great Adventures at Leyden Glen Farm.

Happy New Year to all the denizens of Leyden Glen Farm!

Kristin,
I am so thankful for your blog. I was diagnosed with a terminal disease 4 1/2 years ago. I have learned how to just live at this point and my life is a good life. I love to knit, sew and do crafty, cooky and housewifey kinds of chores. Very satisfying. I love to visit your blog and keep up with your life. Thank you. Thank you for sharing and helping me make my life richer.
