Color By Kristin Giveaway! of New Fall Colors Inspired by my Garden

(This is a long one folks - but it is good so read through because I have a great ending for you.) I was so glad to wake up yesterday morning after arriving home from Detroit very late Wednesday night to find that the frost had stayed away and my garden is still blooming and growing. Good news for me -- I will have flowers for my book photoshoot next week and won't have to spend money.

Autumn is my very favorite time of year. The light is so gorgeous, the air is so crisp and the colors take on a gold glow. I love the garden flowers when they are getting towards their end - it seems their color is extra rich. It may be my imagination, but I think it is that the angle of the sun makes everything just look gorgeous. I love how all the plants fall over, creep around and just make the last ditch effort to set seed.

No surprise --- I used my garden flowers as inspiration for the New Fall 2013 Colors of Color By Kristin. If you have been following my designs over the years, these colors probably look familiar. When Classic Elite Yarns brought my favorite blend (formerly called Julia) back to life last season, they couldn't bring in all the shades. This year, they wanted me to choose 6 new shades and here is what I came up with.....

Leading off the pack, Blue Thyme 3220. This color is a lovely light teal shade - it is a complex teal - not just a blue green. It has hints of red in it and it mixes beautifully with all the other colors. I didn't have any thyme in the garden this year but I've photographed it with some lambs ears and lacinato kale.

Next in line is Coleus 3260. This is one of my favorite dark shades - not purple but more a very dark maroon. You can substitute it for any dark shade. It will add a richness to any garment.
For fun, I photographed it with the new shade Lady's Mantle 3235. When I plucked the coleus from the garden, I couldn't believe the synchronicity of the moment - the edging of the coleus was exactly the same as the new Lady's Mantle. Gorgeous.

Here Lady's Mantle 3235 is photographed with a Green Envy zinnia. Love those flowers although they do not produce very well for me.

Anemone 3295 is such a useful purple shade. Here it is photographed with Verbena Bonariesis.

Rock Henna 3255 is photographed with Hot Biscuits Amaranth. This color is a lovely dark rust with overtones of red and gold.

Lastly, how did we exist without Sunflower 3250 Color By Kristin? I'm not sure.

You can download a color card of the entire Color By Kristin color range here.  You will find the new colors on the bottom of the color card.

Here's what I have for one lucky winner today -
one skein each of the new colors of Color By Kristin.

and one copy of each of the new two new pattern books - Color By Kristin Books 4 and 5.

Here's how you enter..... Answer the following question in the comments section.
Which is your favorite of the 6 new colors of Color By Kristin?
Lady's Mantle?
Blue Thyme?
Rock Henna?
Coleus?
Anemone?
Sunflower?
What will you do with the yarn if you win it?

Contest ends Tuesday October 15th at 11:59 p.m. Please US Addresses only.
PLEASE LEAVE AN EASY WAY TO GET A HOLD OF YOU - E-MAIL OR RAVELRY ID.

And because I am sharing here today - check out Cleo - a fun Fair Isle scarf made with lots of the new colors of Color By Kristin. I knit it on short circulars and edged it in a flared rib. You can find the pattern here on Ravelry. "Heart It" if you like it. The pattern is from Book Five which is available at your local yarnstore or on Ravelry here.

I love all the colors . . . but anemone, coleus, and lady's mantle are my favorites -- they remind me of jack-in-the-pulpits. If I won the yarn I would probably use it in a scarf (because that's the only thing I know how to knit!) but I would love to learn how to knit mittens . . . maybe I'll be brave and try a pair if I win!

Great choices, love them all! I think (at this very moment--so hard to choose) Rock Henna is my favorite of the new colors. As you say, it's a good, solid, dark neutral, yet equally rich in color. All of the brighter colors play off of it well. If I won a skein of all the new colors, I'd love to make some fair isle leg warmers to go with the new short birthday boots I splurged on! Blue Thyme was my favorite color earlier this sunny autumn day, but no question tonight I favor Lady's Mantle as I try to get plums off the tree before the frost. All the colors compliment each other so well.

I would use the palette to work on freeform and applique flowers for a fall cardigan or wrap/shawl -- I have been wanting to try your Sunflower patterns for some time now to this end. Thank you!

Gosh. Hard decision. I would have to pick Rock Henna. I would put the skeins in a basket and use it as a fall table arrangement until I could decide what to make. Probably a vest with all those beautiful colors. regndee@yahoo.com

Wow I love all of the colors but if I had to pick just one it would be the blue thyme. Absolutely beautiful. I would definitely make a scarf with this yarn.

All the colors are gorgeous! It's hard to pick a favorite, but if I can only pick one color as my favorite it would have to be the Coleus. I love the warm richness of it.
I would love to make a warm shawl with all the colors. I can picture sitting on the front porch all wrapped up and enjoying the cool evenings.

I love the Blue Thyme (because I'm really into blue shades right now); but I would use all of these colors together to make a really beautiful Autumn scarf.

They're all beautiful, but I especially like Coleus. I'd use it with Lady's Mantle to make a colorwork scarf or gloves.

I like all of the colors but I would have to say Blue Thyme is my favorite.
I think I would make a scarf, but those colors would make great fingerless mitts too.

If I could only pick one color, which is difficult, I would definitely go with the Coleus. So rich, and wonderful, and definitely looks just like a Coleus!

It's a toss-up between Anemone and Lady's Mantle.

Hello Kristin,
I love your fall garden flowers! I do not have anything at all in my beds that bloom in such wonderful fall tones. Thanks for sharing,

Which is your favorite of the 6 new colors of Color By Kristin? --- Anemone is definitely my fave.

What will you do with the yarn if you win? --- I've always wanted to knit some really colorful fingerless gloves, and I love to do embroidery, so I think it would be fun to try some stitching on some knit fingerless gloves.

Thanks for holding the giveaway,
Betsy in the foggy Seattle suburbs
