Popping in with Odds and Ends

The book shoot is over. What a busy 4 days it has been. The lovely Rikki Snyder did the photos and Sarah Zimmerman assisted. Both of these lovely ladies went to Hallmark Photography School which is in nearby Turner's Falls, MA. I met Sarah first and then Rikki and now the rest is history. Last summer they came to the farm to photograph our house for the Houzz.com website which Rikki writes for.

My late fall garden with colorful trees

The day before the shoot, Mom stopped by to say hi on Columbus Day. She helped me arrange all the flowers I had cut for the various vases for the shoot. I hate when stylists move the same vase around the house. We had at least 20 different vases of flowers that we used in the different photos. We were lucky the frost stayed away.

Here's a little view of what the "rest of the house" looks like when we are working on a room.

The whole process is a messy one - moving furniture, knick knacks, basically all the bits of normal life - to make the photo work. It stirs up the dust in all those corners where the furniture hasn't been moved in forever. It is not for the faint of heart or for those easily embarrassed by their poor housekeeping skills. Luckily, I know I am not the best housekeeper and roll with the punches. I'm exhausted but happy it is over. The family is happy too so life can get back to the normal chaos. Now to put everything back in its place. Crafting the Colorful Home doesn't come out until January 2015 which seems so far away.

Thanks everyone for entering the big giveaway last week. What an awesome response! I've picked a winner - it is WinnythePu on Ravelry and I have sent a message. If I don't hear from her in a week, I will pick another winner.

Pop back next week because I have another good giveaway coming up.

Some fun links for you to peruse this fall weekend....

The folks at Casart who are producing my wallpaper have an updated website. Check it out here. Thinking of sprucing up your house. A single panel makes an artful addition to any home and the mural can be removed easily. It is like a giant post-it note for your wall.

Gudrun Sjoden's new Muhu-inspired line of clothing and home dec........

.......Inspired by this book so obviously that you can buy from Meg Swansen.

Crochet and handcrafts still looking current in home dec

How about this knitted lampshade

It's about time to make this favorite cake with some local apples.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Is there a way to send you an email to ask a question. The link in your sidebar doesn't seem to be working. Looking forward to the release of your book, though it seems such a long time to wait! Love all your flowers.

I love the picture of the flowers all perfect and clean, and then the "real" shot of the mess! That's just like real life!

That lampshade is crochet, not knit. I get so annoyed when retailers confuse the two crafts. Climbing off my high horse now.

The "favorite cake" is fabulous! Perfect for a New England Autumn Day. Thank you for sharing! ( no bundt pan- used a loaf pan)
