When he says something is pretty cool, I usually listen. He's not a man of many words. The next evening, Julia and I arrived at almost sunset. He told us to be patient and just wait. We did...... and then it began --- The Lamb Races.
For some untold reason, at sundown, every evening, the lambs start racing around. It's always the larger lambs who are growing so fast. The younger ones don't do it - they've got to be fit and of a big enough size to not fall down and get trampled - just like little kids.
So here it is for you all to enjoy -- a wacky little video from me and Julia and The Farmer. (Sorry about the quality - I'm still learning...) You all are going to think we are a bit nutty -- not much to do on the farm except watch the lambs race around. But oh well......
Love that video! Thank you for taking the time to film and post.
Julia's commentary at the end is priceless! That kid sure has a great sense of humor.
That's funny... my toddler does this everyday around sundown too.... she runs around the living room and yells.... lol
OMG that was funny, still laughing.
I have a westie who does that in the house here in the winter, and we howl at his antics. He does the same thing, back and forth, back and forth. At the cottage he just goes around and around the septic bed it's so funny.
Keep the videos coming. You are no Steven Spielberg, but pretty good and you captured the moment.
omgosh, this has been so fun reading your blog everyday with the lambs!
Lamb races, guess they need to get their energy out to sleep thru the night ! this was so fun to watch , Loved Julia's wrap up of the event !
How funny! The little ones are hyper! Thanks so much for sharing. :) We all need a bit of fun each day, don't we?! jennifer
Thanks! It's so fun to HEAR them, too! Very sweet. And your daughter is just adorable. Great hat.
Those little lambs look like more fun than a barrel of monkeys!
Oh, I can't wait to show this to my daughter after school today. We would be doing the same thing- watching the lamb races! They are adorable with the funniest little voices. This reminds me of "naked time" just before bathtime when the kids were little and would race around the house.
When I was growing up I had three dogs who did this every evening too. We called it monkey time.
Just too funny! I sat here at my desk at work laughing into my hand.
Julie is such a darling and shows great stage presence.
Thanks for sharing- I love nutty lambvideos;-)We get the same races(but lambingseason doesn't start till April here...)
Julia is so great there at the end!
Love it! They're so cute and look so happy just to be lambs! On of my cats does something similar - usually when I get home from work in the evening - just runs and runs around the house, like he stored up all of his energy until I got home. My hyper boy...
I LOVED the lamb races!! Thanks so much for posting this video. It's just priceless. Julia's comments were a great ending to the video. Thanks for brightening my day!
Thanks! Now THAT'S entertainment! Baaaa...
Hi Julia! When my dog does that I call it going "crackerdog," like Tricki Woo from James Herriot's books.
The bunnies do this every night too, but usually around 8pm. :-)
Oh, so many lovely sturdy lambs! That was wonderful!
The lamb races! It reminds me of when my boys were small and they would find this incredible burst of energy before bedtime! Then they would collapse into bed!
That is cute funny!
First I must comment on that absolutely darling baby lamb in your kitchen. How coud any mother reject him/her?
The sheep races are hilarious and Julia did a great job with the ending speech. BTW - I love Julia's hat.

I completely understand these
sheep... my kids even my 12 yr old
does this after dinner before bed!
It usually starts like this:
"ok kids you need start getting
ready for school and bed...
your it......... no you are....
marco ....... duck duck goooooose!
Me: *sigh* ...who has their
stuff for a shower.....?
Kids: jinks you owe me a soda..
where is Leo....(3 year old)
then here he comes running
out of the coat closet and running
in a circle until everyone is
Me: (watching... helplessly)
*when they fall to the floor...*
ok now who is taking a shower?
Kids: she is... he is... they are."
until they are pooped out...
Love the video! All those cute
babies! You have the most awsome
nursery ever! Look at all those
Thanks for sharing. Imagine...a race where everyone wins!
Very, very cute!
Crack me up!! That is soo cute (& hilarious).
Oh, I love this video.
The sound of the lambs is so nice.
But the best is Julia. She made it perfect.
I can´t wait when my cildren come home to share this video with them.
WE LOVE YOUR LAMBSTORIES ! Thank you!

We have also noticed the 'racing lamb' phenomenon in the evenings when our mamas are at the feeder. It is as if the little lambs are saying "Finally I can have some fun while mom is not looking." It is very entertaining!
Thank you so much for sharing the video!
Looks like babies of all species do this. Our calves race through the barn, in one end and out the other and then around the outside to do it again. And they are very agile, thankfully, since I once happened to be standing in the middle of their raceway. Imagine, 15 or so 100+ pound calves running full bore at you and then watching them changing direction mid air to avoid a collision with you.
Babies are funny. Thanks for the video. I think Julia's hat is cute, too. Fits the girl under it!
Thanks for taking and showing us that video - the lambs are soooo funny, and we laughed at their voices too! Thanks for a great laugh.
Our dog does something similar too; every once in a while - usually later in the day - he just tears around the yard or house several times - we call it his "mad run".
What a fascinating phenomena that is!! We lived in the foothills of the Cascades in Washington state and daily visits from deer family were always a treat. They would do this same thing in the evenings. Sometimes it was the babies only and other times the whole family got into the action. Thanks for sharing.
That's really fun, thank you!
Absolutely wonderful - from start to finish!
I see it coming, I SEE IT... soon there'll be NO KNITTING, no knitting at all-- only these great little FILMS!
I said it here, I want everyone to remember!
Happy Valentines to you all.
Love the lamb races - we raise beef cattle in North Louisiana and when a small mound of dirt was left in the pasture we noticed the older calves having a game of 'king of the hill' every evening. Their mammas stand by keeping the younger ones safely off the hill as the older ones butt and wrangle for dominance. Great fun on the farm.
