It is Valentine's Day and so I thought I should do something for all of you who are still reading here. I've got a great chance to win the brand new Vogue Knitting Ultimate Knitting Book.
This is the third edition of this "must have" book for serious or not so serious knitters. It's amazing to think that the fine folks at Soho have published this book in three different versions. But then when I think about it - what knitters knit and are interested in changes so much over the years. Who better to update such information than the women who work at the top of the industry. Remarkable too to know that it has sold more than 1,000,000 copies in its different versions! WOW. That is a book that is in a lot of knitter's libraries.
This new edition of the Vogue Knitting Ultimate Knitting Book includes beautifully illustrated how-to illustrations with complete and clear instructions on how to tackle each technique - and there are hundreds of them. It is a fantastic resource for sure.
The Vogue Knitting Ultimate Knitting Book is split up into different sections like in the past and covers anything a new or experienced knitter might have a question about.
The sections I found interesting - because they are new to the book and more representative of what knitters are making now are:
Lace
Designing Sweaters - including how to measure yourself to knit to fit
Directional Knitting - for those of you want to knit every which way - FUN!
Accessory Designing - how to design hats, mittens, gloves, etc.
Shawl Knitting - to follow the trend that seems to not stop
I'm going to hold on to the two other versions of VK Knitting Book and will place this one on my library shelves next to them. Thanks Trisha, Carla, Diane, and crew for working so hard and keeping the craft relevant.
Do you want your very own copy of the brand new Vogue Knitting Ultimate Knitting Book? Here's how to enter the giveaway.
Please as always, leave an easy way to get a hold of you - email, Rav id or blogger id.
I knit mostly charity hats, but would love to learn fair isle and how to make socks or sweaters that fit. Thanks so much for your continuing inspiration, Kristin.

What a lovely give-away - thank you for the opportunity. Right now I want to knit ALL the things! I'm not that experienced, but am working on Sigla - an Icelandic sweater in LettiLopi and loving it. I want to design some socks and a hat...have been toying with ideas in my head and must get out the graph paper.
Moving on from socks to sweater. I'm a slow knitter so it will take me a while to complete. I also bought a loom so I can make charity scarves faster.
Russian and Japanese knitting patterns and stitch dictionaries. They are absolutely stunning.
I both knit and crochet. I'd love to try fair isle knitting -- and also brioche.

I've been knitting for a little over 10 years and still have so much to learn. Knitting is my current obsession. I've thought on and off about learning to spin, but I haven't had the opportunity to take any classes yet. Maybe that's an omen. I do want to master Brioche knitting. I tried once but failed miserably. There are so many cute patterns out there now I'm really itching to try again. Thanks for the terrific giveaway! Savannagal on Rav.
I love doing Fair Isle because of the color and pattern changes although I do simple garments with it (scarves, hats). I'm about to attempt a simple cardigan but I'm a slow knitter so this could take a while. I'd like to learn about lace knitting to see if I could actually do it.

I am slowly learning more about commercial embroidery technique and time-saving devices. I just got back from the hardware store with a heat gun (to help shrink some loops in embroidery designs--this only works with polyester thread--don't try it on cotton!).
Wow, thanks. I still like knitting socks. There are so many patterns and you can always make up your own stitch combinations, besides all the great yarns available. The off-kilter shawls pique my interest. Have not tried them.
I love that you have so many interests. I've 'cycled' through so many over the years. I usually come back to the 'old' ones and it is great to see the new twists things have taken.
Thank you!
Brioche! I'm signed up for a beginner course (in person) with Andrea Mowry in March. Hoping the instructions stick and I am able to easily pick up this new technique. Thank you for the giveaway, Kristin. This looks like a must have for any knitters library.
I'd love to have the Vogue knitting book. I'm really ADD about my knitting right now. Is it the winter doldrums? I finished a baby sweater and a winter hat for myself, then I frogged a half finished shawl and a half finished sock because I think the two finger weight skeins will be lovely in Justyna Lorkowska's new "Dancing Palms" shawl (which I just downloaded). But I also want to start a sweater. So until I can settle down, I cross stitch.
This week Tunisian crochet is my obsession. I would like to knit brioche and thinking about possibly doing some Fair Isle. Margostitches on Ravelry
I love cables and am just starting a cableicious cardigan. SheilaOKeefe on RAV
Happy Valentine's Day Kristin! Thank you for the opportunity to win your lovely give-away. A friend taught me how to knit several years ago, and I taught myself to crochet a few years back. The current technique that has me intrigued and wanting to learn more is embossed crochet. What a wonderful way to add texture and dimension to crocheted pieces! karen@edwardproperties.com
I am hoping to perfect mittens. I appreciate them so much in the barn and when I am around town. i like applying the many techniques to mittens. Thanks for the giveaway
what a great give away, thanks.
I just saw Amy Herzog at WEBS and so I am interested in getting measured and making a "custom fit" sweater. I was also recently trying to make a two colored cowl with ribbing so that it would be close fit and also with short row shaping so that the color changes were in waves. I tried and tried and gave up on it. Maybe the book would have helped me figure out short row shaping in rib? nohomama on rav
I am currently in love with making lace shawls....love trying new fiber combo to see how they drape! I am still playing with embroidery on self stamped fabric and knitting! I am hoping to do some more tiles as well. What is peaking my interst....knitting to fit you, choosing the right style, length etc
Really enjoying spinning and knitting handspun. After many years actually planning a project and spinning for it has become my thing. Rav ID dazerdoo
My favorite always is stranded knitting. I want to learn Portuguese knitting and using a Shetland belt. Hoping that changing how I knit will help with arthritis. I have the previous 2 editions but would love to have this one based on the new content you show. Thanks! cnossiter@yahoo.com
I divid my time between knitting, crocheting and mix media art. I love to knit socks. My mom always claimed they were hard, I tried my first pair a few years ago, and I am addicted to knitting socks

Ps thanks for all of lambing pictures and stories
My favorite thing to knit is lace, but I’ve been pushing myself lately and doing two-colored cables, where the cable is a different color than the background yarn. Cables are not my strong suit, so this is a challenge. :) Thank you for the opportunity to win such a useful book!
I am loving mitered squares right now, i want to be better at fixing mistakes. annejz on rav
Between the shovelling, chopping, scooping, grocery-getting whenever there's a break in the weather and, Elderly-Parental-Units-HERDING, I'd just like to FIND the time to keep up with my REGULAR stitchiness!!
Otherwise, Cables and Brioche are on my eventual Bucket-List!
;-}
Anyhoo, hope you & MARK managed to squeeze in a *FUN* VALENTINE'S DAY!
*HUGS*!
:-D
I've have this book on my wish list! Right now I'm finishing some socks for my husband who wanted navy! Ugh. Ready to have them finished. Also, I've been swatching for my first sweater. I chose the Churchmouse cardigan. Having a challenge getting gauge! One of my favorite techniques is felting. Needing a new pair of slippers at the moment so may have to cast on for a pair. Love the Frenchpress pattern. I have knit umpteen pair over the years for myself as well as for gifts.

I love to do colorwork. This year one of my goals is to learn two color brioche. Chris, ravelry id is wagner
I'm very curious to try brioche knitting since my sister gave me a cowl using this technique. It's so squishy! I'm also eager to try Custom Fit as I've yet to knit the perfectly fitting sweater - maybe that will help.
Thanks for the giveaway! (MicheleinMaine on Rav)
Thanks for the chance to own a copy of this new book! My favorite is knitting. And I’m very excited to be the new owner of a rigid heddle loom and want to learn how to pick up and knit stitches on handwoven fabric to create clothing accessories like vests, cowls and small bags. Love the very addicting knitted color work hats too. (One more row!)

Kristin,
Thank you for making the new Vogue knitting book a give away. It would be so helpful to me right now. I am teaching myself fair isle knitting. I want to be able to knit pieces like the item under the first photo in todays post under the book. It think I have seen it in one of your books. Recently I have started knitting again after many years. It occupies most of my free time. Right now I am knitting what is probably called stranded knitting where I am copying things where I can find a graph making a scarf, My Favorite Things, from Ravelry.
The more complex designs are too difficult right now. I get lost trying to count spaces, etc. Also I am afraid to start a sweater as it seems daunting. But my goal is a fair isle sweater. I have a pattern in mind with a fair isle yoke. Your blogs are so fun each time. I live in the Adirondack Mountains, recently retired and finally have time to enjog reading news and blogs in the morning and knitting in the evenings by the fire. The Vogue Knitting book would be a lovely additional to my days.

Right now, I am beginning to tackle Fair Isle and enjoying learning about color and dominance. Limitless! Thanks for the chance to win. Melanie1 on Rav
I'm an intermediate knitter and would like to progress to the next level. I'd like to start designing smaller accessories and one day design my own sweaters. Thank you Kristin for being such a great resource for being courageous with color! My ravelry ID is daisysnow.
I have many knitting and craft books and I treasure them all. I take them out and read them and leaf through them frequently. This one I do not have. Right now I am making a garment (pullover) after following the Mason Dixon website and also watching the Fruity Knitting podcast/You Tube I have been reinvigorated to take the time to knit a garment after many handwarmers, hats, cowls, and shawls. Thanks to you, Kristin, and the many other truly creative people whose enthusiasm and encouragement and knowledge spurs the rest of us to keep striving to use our drive to be "makers". nurnanc @ rav.
I'm currently knitting socks. Also trying to do a decent Fair Isle. I've done a couple of hats but struggle with getting the tension right. It's so much fun seeing the colors coming together! I appreciate YouTube but still love a reference book at hand. I'm also a quilter, card maker, love embroidery! Always enjoy your blog. Seeing what's going on on the farm.
This book sounds wonderful! As far as what I am interested in knitting....well I know everone is doing it but brioche patterning. I love doing intricate patterns with stitches so love lace, etc. twisted stitches. Well I just love knitting. Have a great day! Rav ID:Ettenna
I love to knit socks and would like to learn how to cable knit.
Hi Kristin -
Lately I find myself wanting to keep the knitting simple. Stockinette Stitch? YES! Garter Stitch? YES! I throw in stripes when I want a little entertainment.
My theory is that life has become so complicated lately, I want my knitting to be simple, soothing, satisfying.
I hope you and the family are well, and that this years crop of lambs are healthy and strong.
I knit mostly charity hats, but would love to learn fair isle and how to make socks or sweaters that fit. Thanks so much for your continuing inspiration, Kristen.

What a nice give-a-way! Currently, I am wrapping up a scarf. It's from your pattern, Otto. I haven't been spending as much time knitting these days, but I am thinking about starting another brioche scarf for my honey. Also, I signed up for a several advance double knitting workshops at the Yarnover, the Minnesota Knitters Guild one day event that takes place in April. I feel fortunate to live in the land of so many talented knitters!

I have always crocheted. I am interested in learning more about knitting. I know purl and knit stitches but would like to be more proficient in knitting. I particularly would like to learn about knitting lace stitches. Thank you for the chance to win this great resource book.
Right now I'm working on mittens that have a honey comb and cable pattern, challenging! I would love to learn the brioche stitch, so many beautiful patterns available!
Thanks for the chance to have such a great book!
I love knitting, crocheting and painting. Love shawls and working with different yarns in one project.

Hi Kristin, looks like a wonderful book to be sure. 50+ years of knitting and still learning new techniques. Who ever though I'd be knitting only half a mitten and only the tops of socks? (Teenage neighbor girls). I love making (and wearing shawls) and if I can add beads to something that's a plus. So many fabulous ideas and patterns floating around these days and always willing to learn more!
Thanks for offering knitters another resource.

Don’t think my previous text went through, so I’ll try again. This winter, I’m learning fair isle by making myself ( a rarity) a lopi sweater. Have done 2 stranded, but advancing to 4 strands! Would love that book because I like learning and reinforcing techniques. Also, interested in pattern fitting and design. Thanks, Kristin! Can’t wait for your new book!!
Dear Kristin, Happy Valentine's to you too.
Thanks for the opportunity to have a great book.
I love knitting and crochet,I think I have been doing that my whole life.
Right now I am learning watercolor and oil. Was in my bucket list!
I just finished knitting a beautiful pink shwal.
Now I'm thinking to knit or crochet, I haven't decided yet,a baby blanket.
Thank you again.
Hi Kristin,
I would like to learn fair isle knitting. I'm currently working onsome intarsia socks, and a modular blanket. I'd love that Vogue Knitting book.
This new edition of Vogue Knitting is getting all kinds of kudos. Thanks for sharing your take on it and having a drawing for the book. Count me in!
Thanks for the opportunity! I'm a knitter and into stranded colorwork right now. I started off with a few hats, a pair of mittens and now I'm getting ready to do a yoked sweater.

Thank you for this opportunity Kristin!
I am a passionate sweater knitter and would love to learn more about knitting not he angle or axis. Also one o may goals this year is to learn software that will allow me to create graphs and patterns for the sweaters I make. Usually I just sketch everything on a scratch piece of paper!? :)
Enjoy the beautiful white winter!

Would love the opportunity to win the book. I always have socks on a long needle for mindless knitting in doctors offices, waiting in line, etc. I'm really into lace (at least looking at it); just can't decide which pattern to start with and also want to learn how to do brioche stitch.
This book looks great! I really love stranded colorwork, especially with one yarn that changes colors through self-striping or ombre.
Vogue always publishes the best books and magazines. This is a beautiful book, and would be a great addition to my knitting library. Thanks for a wonderful giveaway!
I really want this book! It’s already on my amazon wishlist. My heart is always with knitting my own handspun yarn, but I do hope to be braver this year with cables and color work.
I am not sure where my comment went. I will try again. The prize is amazing! Increases and decreases are important for many projects. Steeking has been on my mind for awhile and knitting in the round for colorwork.
Sorry, my e-mail is blackstone@gardener.com
I am always working on making my finishing even more flawless! I am moving back to classics, and am enthralled by simplicity in style and line.
I am interested in all color work. I am now working on a color work yoke.
Hi, Kristin, I mostly want to improve my stranded knitting but I am intrigued w/ brioche and want to learn that and I am always interested inlearning more about how to design for my body. thanks, Mary in Cincinnati
I have been a knitter my whole life, mainly sweaters for myself, my kids, friends' babies, and an occasional scarf for a friend. In the past year, I've added rigid heddle weaving to my craft favorites. I can use my stash and much more quickly than knitting make gifts and usable projects from my loom. I am so excited to be attending an advanced rigid heddle class this weekend at Webs!
I am working on polishing my two color knitting. Crik at nekofarm@frontiernet.net
Thank you for the giveaway! I am currently into knitting stranded mittens, inspired by Scandinavianwear. My goal is to work with finer and finer yarns, gaining greater pattern detail
My loom and my wheel are calling to me and I intend to become a crocheter. Thanks for the giveaway.
HI Kristin, thank you for the great giveaway. I have been knitting for about 50 years, but have never focused on Lace Knitting. I have started Michelle Hunter's Building with Lace book and have just started the shawl that comes from this booklet. Also, I have knitted several of Stephen West's sweaters and shawls, but this year want to knit every one of them in his new Sweater book. My 2018 will mainly be about these two books for me. saradenbo on ravelry
Thanks for this opportunity, Kristin. I am a brand new knitter, so I'm workin' on the knit stitch!
I would like to get better at Fair Isle so I'm not constantly tangling yarn and would like to learn how to create interesting color combinations. Thanks! I'm kathoderaytube on Ravelry.
This is related to knitting but not actually knitting. I am mostly darning socks. I've got so many socks with holes in them that I just decided to push myself to get through the darning box. When done, I'll have about 20 more pairs of wood socks to wear! And be ready for a knitting project. You know how to reach me,
Knitting is my first love. Lately I have been wanting to do some embroidery. Thanks for the great giveaway.

Trying to keep that wool on the needles as I learn how to knit. I have crochet and decided to give knitting a try. Hope to be able to keep the wool from falling off. Enjoy reading your blog. You can reach me at dianewillard51@gmail.com
I just picked up colorwork with Caitlin Hunter’s Kodikas. I was feeling the need for more color so I made Ysolda’s Saudade hat. Love it. Finally I just picked up Marlisle by Anna Maltz. I think I see a theme here...! Really I just want to learn how to do it better. Holding the yarn is still awkward and my joins leave something to be desired, but the color keeps talking to me so I’m forging ahead. :-)
Favorite knitting technique right now: brioche
Piquing: stacked stitches
Want to learn: ALL THE THINGS seriously!
Thanks for this great giveaway. I need/must/want to learn to brioche knit and steek.
Steeking seems easy but it is hard to think of cutting knits.
I have long admired the Paris scarf by Nancy Marchant, and I want to take that on as soon as I recover from rotator cuff surgery. I haven't been able to knit for 6 weeks. I am going crazy.
I love seeing your new lambs and crochet squares on instagram.
