Pouring Down Rain

It is pouring down rain here today. It is wet and feels raw and cold and generally miserable. Last night it came down in buckets all night long. This past weekend when I was at The Fiber Loft in Harvard, MA, all my students were talking about the flooding they are having in eastern Massachusetts. Roads are closed because the rivers are over the roads and it is making commuting a real nightmare.

If you ask me, commuting in eastern Mass is always a nightmare, rain or no rain. I spent my fair share of hours commuting when I worked for TYC in Lowell. I actually didn't mind my regular daily half hour drive I had every day to get to Lowell; by the time I got to my office, I had my day planned out and I was ready to get to work. I drove back roads so it was very rare that I was stuck in traffic. But I also spent a lot of time on airplanes, in airports, and driving to Logan Airport. The woman I worked for used to buy my plane tickets and very frequently she would choose a 6 a.m. flight. I absolutely hated that - I would have to get up at 3:00 and get in the car by 3:30. When I would get on Rt. 3, I would be blown away by the number of cars and trucks on the road at 4 a.m. It would be a mad race to get to Logan by 5 a.m. and even get on the plane. Let's say some flights I missed.... but then there were some minor miracles like when I got a flat tire on Rt. 3 before 6 in the morning and a kind soul helped me change it and I actually made my flight. Thank you kind soul wherever you are.

As I sit here at our little Town Hall using the wifi this morning, I'm pretty darn happy with my commute. Five minutes to drop Julia off at school and two minutes to the Town Hall to use the high speed internet access. Just reading what I just wrote makes me wonder how the heck I made it through all those 16 years of chasing the rabbit. I know there are many of you out there who have horrendous commutes - just know there is an escape if you dare to take a leap. Not easy to leap but possible.

Sheep are out in the weather, no matter what. These guys were avoiding the rain taking shelter in the greenhouse.

This group was hanging around just outside the barn, deciding to stay dry or brave the elements.

The grass is starting to grow and the sheep are beginning to graze. I think they must stand there waiting for a blade of grass to grow a little longer so they can munch it. Won't be long until they are able to be out on pasture. Ahhhh, finally a new color for the blog - green! The brown will fade away soon, I promise.....

Here's a new little lamb - it is a twin and it's father was our new Cheviot ram. Notice the upright pointy, perky ears. Cute, huh? We've been waiting for some of his babies and they are finally coming. We didn't get him until later in the year before most of the breeding happened.

This little guy wasn't going to let a little rain bother him. Wet but content.

I want to thank Reba at The Fiber Loft for inviting me to teach last weekend. I had a great group of students and I really enjoyed spending time with all of them sharing my passion. Hope to see some of you in Eastern Mass this coming Saturday afternoon at the Wellesley Booksmith. It will be Saturday so at least I won't be stuck in too much traffic, I hope.

I don't know which I like better - the colours, the lambs or the knitting : )

My husband and I are trying to leave the rat race in the DC area, and your quote:
"just know there is an escape if you dare to take a leap. Not easy to leap but possible"
will be an inspiration for me when it seems too hard to get everything to fall into place!
