The Farmer, His iPad and The Knit It Felt It Tech Cozy

What would your significant other say to you if you started snapping photos of him when he hasn't yet had his first sip of tea? The Farmer is a sport. Either that or he was oblivious to his wife snapping away. All for my knitting pals. (Nice hair-do, wouldn't you say?)

Do you watch "Modern Family?" Our family is a big fan of that show. Do you remember the night when geeky Phil desperately wanted the brand-new iPad and Claire went nutty trying to procure one? Julia thought that was the funniest thing and she started teasing her Dad that we were going to buy him an iPad for Christmas. His response was "I'll use it as a hammer to pound fence posts in." This banter went back and forth for at least 8 months. Christmas 2010 came around and Julia and I went up to Brown Computers and bought the iPad thinking that it was really for the women of the household.

Let's just say The Farmer surprised the women. He actually uses the iPad and he calls it "his." He can still surprise me 30 years later.

What does The Farmer use his iPad for? The weather naturally and a sheep forum. Yes, you read it here first. There must be forums for everyone. We knitters have Ravelry - sheep farmers have "A Place for Production-Minded Shepherds." Compelling, wouldn't you say?
The iPad here lives a rather rough life. Cats constantly walking across it, tea and coffee narrowly missing it.... and then there are the lambs that are frequently running around the kitchen during lambing season with dogs in hot pursuit. The Farmer's iPad needed a Cozy. It needed protection from all the things that could happen to it. I grabbed my needles last summer and started knitting.

I had to make one that was colorful so it could be easily found amongst the mess on the table. It had to be somewhat masculine as The Farmer's iPad sometimes travels. This is what I came up with. A Fair Isle Knit It Felt It Fair Isle Cozy. I love it.

Never one to stop with one simple version for one of my patterns. (Yes, I drive my tech editor crazy with all the sizing and versions.) The Knit It Felt It Tech Cozy pattern comes in 4 sizes from small cellphone, complete through 2 e-reader sizes and on up to the iPad. There's a size for all your techy things.

A Cozy for all your Techie Gadgets
Now for all you who aren't big fans of Fair Isle (two color stranded) knitting, I also made a simpler version one color version in 4 sizes....
And then I couldn't stop and morphed the one color version into a very fun to knit random stripe version....
Something for everyone, I say - 4 sizes, and 2 versions in each size. All for $6.00 which includes immediate delivery to your in-box. You can knit one this weekend, I promise. And it is a great stash-buster for any worsted weight feltable yarn. Read all about the sizing, etc on my Knitting Patterns Page here.
Now available for sale on my website here.
OR click on the "buy now" button below and you'll be purchasing via Ravelry (but you do not need to be a member).

**I actually make more money if you purchase through Ravelry, not my website! The folks at Ravelry are incredibly generous by not gouging all of us independent designers with high fees. Thank you kind Jess and Casey. You are the best. And if you are a LYS, all of my patterns are available through their LYS program.

Good weekend everyone. The Maple Farmers around here are beginning to tap trees in anticipation of sugaring beginning soon. Lots of activity in the woods. How darn exciting.

LOL'd at your "Compelling" comment. We knitters are used to being the butt of such wry commentary. So funny to turn it around. Good to know about buying your patterns from Ravelry!
p.s. did you ramp up your comment security? I have a hard time passing as "not a robot." I'm going for a third try just now.

Hi Sally - No I didn't ramp up my comment security but maybe Blogger did. I wouldn't have a clue how to do that! It is all I can do to write a post and upload photos.

Apparently no one can resist the lure of the iPad! Yes, there is a forum for every interest, even knitters ;-)

It is useless to try to resist the technology! My husband said he'd never, ever use such a thing. Now he's shopping online for camping, fishing and farming equipment all the time! Better that we jump in and learn instead of becoming totally out of the loop.

Love the pattern(s)!

Love all the designs & ideas. A Farmer with an iPad - wow! A Farmer with an iPad in a knitted cosy - WOW! You're way ahead in the technology stakes over there - cutting edge 'down on the farm' - great ideas!

What a cute blog story! I don't doubt that there are sheep forums at all. I'm all consumed with my backyard chicken keeping forum where I stare at the elaborate coops of other like minded pet chicken owners. LOL

Hi Kristin,
today I've knitted an i-Phone Tech Cozy and it looks great - I really love it and knitting it was so much fun. Thanks for you help, tomorrow I'll send you a photo and, by the way, I ordered the pattern via ravelry ;-) Have a nice sunday, Martina

Gorgeous covers! Maybe if I knit an iPad cover I will have to buy an iPad! Isn't that good reasoning? I'll hop on over to Ravelry right now!
