And now for something really fun - I'm hosting a Garden Effects Sock Yarn Giveaway! Two lucky winners will receive 2 balls each of 3 colors of my new sock yarn.

To enter, answer the following question in my Comments section.....

Question: What is your favorite summer knitting project?

I always have at least two sock projects going for summer and for travel, set up in my Humbug Bag (101 One Skein Wonders). Using my own pattern, A Sock for All Seasons, with an easy eyelet mock cable design for the cuff (to keep me awake, otherwise I am on auto-pilot!). Picking up some Cubix square #2 dpns today to "kick things up a notch"..... Shelagh Smith, vtshelagh@aol.com

WOO HOOOOO! Made my day, and I just woke up! SOCKS! Best summer project b/c who wants a lap full of yarn when it's hot? Plus you can even knit them on the beach without getting them all full of sand. This is great news Kristin. (B/c I also love Regia sock yarn.) Heading out to buy some this weekend! Congrats! I'm seedesigns on Ravelry.

I accually like to knit socks in the summer. Small enough that they don't get my hands and lap overheated in the warm weather. Then when fall rolls around, I am ready.

Well done you! I LOVE the colors! I am not a sock knitter, but love sock yarn and use it to make crocheted lace scarves! I also incorporate it with another yarn for granny work! They come out beautifully!

Congratulations! May you have many years of sucess with the new yarns.
This will be my first summer of knitting, so technically know my favorite project. Am dreaming of learning all the sock structures. Looking at Cat Bordhi videos right. It's already 80 degrees and humid, so I'm quickly finishing a prayer shawl and a cable vest to get them off my lap. So socks seem like the perfect summer project.
Thanks.

What a great giveaway. Such vibrant summer colors. My favorite summer knitting project is whatever I have been working on. I don't make items specific to the time of year. Beautiful colors! Because it is so hot here, I spend more time indoors in the summer and outdoors the rest of the year. I sometimes tackle the bigger projects in the summer under the a/c. I always have smaller ongoing projects to take-a-long. Sock yarn makes darling baby things!

Congrats, the colors are beautiful. I would expect no less from you! My favorite summer knitting is absolutely socks. They are very portable, and I don't have a lap of wool while sitting next to the pool! So excited to see your new yarn. It looks great! Really like the Kristin color stamp - so different than what's out there.

I live on the coast and we have fog in the summer so it's not unusual for me to be knitting a sweater (wool even) but for summer activities I like to have a scarf or shawlette to pick up and go with. And nice for visiting warm places.

Susan B. said...

Congratulations! The colors are beautiful. I can't wait to knit some up. My favorite summer knitting is lacy shawls and mini-shawlettes. My shoulders always get cold in air conditioned buildings so light shawls are something I can wear right away in the summer and they are not hot to knit (not a lot of wool in my lap while I'm working on them!).

I need my projects to be packable. They could be baby gifts for a shower, or shawls and hats for Christmas, or maybe maybe just something for me. I live in Arizona, and it's freaking hot down here from about, oh now (for real, it was 92 the other day) until September. I usually enjoy it until about the end of May. By mid June, I've become nocturnal. By July, I've retreated into a state of estivation (hibernating due to heat instead of cold). By the end of July, I'm knitting hats and mittens and scarves because they're small, portable, don't lay over my body and I'm dreaming of winter. By the end of August I'm listening to Christmas carols as I knit...

I've been considering suggesting to Caroline and Dan (www.carodanfarm.com), that they consider you as a teacher. You would love the area if you've not been there. Although it is a bit of a distance for you. Back to your lovely contest. About midway through the summer I begin thinking about fall. In my mind fall means pumpkins. That means knitting and felting pumpkins and gourds! Once I start, I just cannot seem to stop. I have a nice collection of them as do many friends and family members. Those are some fantastic colors! Lately, I've been working on chenille washcloth patterns as graduation gifts in the early summer and socks once the grad season is done.

I wrap a chenille cotton washcloth around a bar of fancy handmade soap and then put a check in the card. Never a complaint . . .

Beautiful new sock yarn. Congratulations! My favorite summer project is socks. Light, and not all that yarn on your lap. Perfect for a littl something to bring with you wherever you go!

I love the new yarn! Congratulations! I'll have to check our my LYS tomorrow!

My favorite knitting projects for summer are head-starts for winter holiday gift-giving. It always feels great to plan ahead and be ahead of the game, and the projects are usually small ones (mittens, socks, etc.) that make for good warm-weather knitting.

Congratulations on the Regia line -- gorgeous colors!

I should say socks, but I really love working on something complicated...cables or lace and knitting on the deck in the cool of the morning. The sock yarn colors are scrumptious!

This summer, I am hoping to do a bit of knitting for my niece (who is due in a few weeks!) and her brother, who is 3. I want to do some little booties and sweaters for her, and a couple knitted toys for him. I've got my eye on a Susan Anderson reversible. These things seem good for a hot humid summer - small, portable, quick.

You can find me on rav under EmilyPotato.

My fave thing to do is to use up all of my winter knitting leftovers to create dozens of quarters caps, using your pattern, for a children's charity near me. I use four different colors for each hat and I just go crazy with color. The recipients seems to love them, as reported to me by the adults, so here's to a summer of happy, take-along knitting.

Animals and the small Christmas goodies. Too hot for any project of size. Come fall I will begin an afghan.

Beautiful yarn!

Anything but heavy winter sweaters. It is an interesting question because I never realized that I change according to the season. Last summer I made three small shawls, a linen tunic, and a few hats.
Congrats on the new sock yarn.

I may be strange, but I live to make a new wool cardigan for the fall in the summer. Living in the Pacific Northwest, my wool cardigan's get worn year around, whether as an extra layer with the weather is cold and damp, or as a snuggly item after the sun has gone down.

Well done! Lovely colours, but what else can we expect form you! Summer knitting is much the same as winter knitting for me - largely because I knit slowly and the seasons just roll into one! I used to knit man jumpers, but nowadays it is shawl(ettes), bags and socks and maybe a child's jumper if I am feeling adventurous. I am Allabitrandom on ravelry ( and in general to be honest).

Congratulations, Kristen!
I actually do enjoy trying cotton yarns even though wool will always be the favorite. Right now working on a short sleeve cardigan (cotton) for my grandaughter. nurnanc@gmail.com

Oh I do enjoy using Regia sock yarns and your colors (as would be expected!) are wonderful additions to the Regia family.

In early summer, I am generally trying to finish up some lingering winter project ... perhaps some wool socks? Then as summer gets warmer and warmer, I often defy the city heat and work on some quick projects like cushion covers, exploring new color and/or stitch combinations...these often become Christmas gifts when December rolls around.

Best wishes.

Hi Kristin
I love the sock yarn colors. Very fun. My favorite summer knitting project is hats for infants and small children. In the fall there are always hat drives for various charities. I like to be ready to give. Sock yarn makes great baby hats!

I've only just started knitting socks, but I foresee them being a good summer thing, because they're small and use nice light yarn. That said, I have a nephew due in August, so I see this summer producing lots of baby things.

Congratulations! I think Regia is the workhorse of sock yarns. It looks great, knits well and lasts forever! Looking forward to seeing Garden Effects.

My favorite summer knitting is the project I think about - a little linen something - possibly the slip/chemise/nightie from MasonDixon Knitting.

Congrats, Kristin!!! You always seem to have something up your sleeve.

Summer knitting eh? It really depends on what inspirations I've run across. I've been known to knit hats, mittens, and just started knitting socks, so I'm sure I'll make a few pairs this summer.

I love to do small projects in the summer - will probably be baby hats for a local hospital - would be fun to make them out of fun, stripey sock yarn!

I usually knit socks and mittens in the summer---right now, I'm using one of the Kaffe Fassett Random Stripes colorways.

I like knitting with cotton in the summer and because I am so busy farming that I get totally sleepy at night, I don't do a lot of summer knitting. When I do knit, I like very simple projects. It's a good time to make pot holders.

Congratulations! What a gorgeous color palette - suits you very well.
I always move on to small, simple, and portable projects in the summer - the kinds of things that can be easily tossed in a bag and transported to the park, the patio, the lake. Baby knits, hats, light and lacy shawls and scarves are all in my summer knitting bag.

Kristin, how wonderful! I will buy some whether I win or not! M favorite summer knitting is socks as I travel in the car because there is air conditioning and my hands won't stick to the yarn. I also like to make things with cotton, dishcloths, lace, curtains, etc. You can reach me at auntiddaknits@yahoo.com thanks for your great blog!

Congrats on these great colour combo's!
In summer I like to prepare for winter: shawls, mittens, baby hats etc. There's no rush in the hopefully long summer months, no need for skimping on cuff length. I tend to go for brighter summer colours and like to think some of the relaxing summer warmth lingers in the stitches.

In the past, I always worked on summery things, like cotton tops. Later in the summer, I would begin to shift over to sweaters I could wear in early fall. This, summer, however, I'm going to concentrate on socks, I think.
