Holiday Weekend Wishes

I hope you all are enjoying this first weekend in July. It is EXTREMELY hot and humid here - in the 90's. I'm not a hot weather girl one bit so I am mostly miserable. But I have been working on my garden - getting it mulched - in the heat. I moved over 2400 pounds of mulch hay in the past two days in the heat - yes, I said it again - the heat! Smelly rotting stuff and hot and miserable but it is done! Once I get the mulch hay down, I don't have to weed much more. It is worth the bother. Next week, I'll start planting sunflower seeds.

We couldn't shear the first batch of sheep because of all the rain and their fleeces didn't dry enough to clip them.

Some of my perennials are starting to bloom. I love this helianthus that does a bit of self-seeding but not too much. It looks great in a vase and lives a long time. I'm doing a bit of garden destruction - getting rid of different perennial beds of plants that I never get to weeding. Sometimes you just have to make things easier for yourself and this is the year for that task for me. I'm letting it go!

I'm big into working on my new book Crafting the Colorful Home. Rather exciting work for me and a big change from knitting and crochet books. I am having a blast doing it. It won't be out until 2015 but my deadline is this fall!

Hope you all are staying cool and enjoying family and friends on this holiday weekend.

Your helianthus looks beautiful in that colorful vase. I just began rearranging my perennial garden and might now consider that flower just for interior purposes. I love it!

I am so excited about this new book. You have a fabulous way of embarrassing color in your home in such an authentic way. Good luck with it. I can't wait to read it!

Oh, I hate the heat too! So much. And I am not a gardener (black thumb) so I just stay inside as much as possible.

The new book sounds exciting! So good that you are sharing your talents with the non-fibery world.

I'm really looking forward to your new book! I need some color inspiration to make some much needed changes to my surroundings. Your flowers are always so beautiful!

Fingers are crossed that the new book will also contain a list of the colorful flowers found in so many of your photographs. I count on your inspiration to guide plantings in our garden and today's post is a keeper!
