Color By Kristin Giveaway! of New Fall Colors Inspired by my Garden

(This is a long one folks - but it is good so read through because I have a great ending for you.) I was so glad to wake up yesterday morning after arriving home from Detroit very late Wednesday night to find that the frost had stayed away and my garden is still blooming and growing. Good news for me -- I will have flowers for my book photoshoot next week and won't have to spend money.

Autumn is my very favorite time of year. The light is so gorgeous, the air is so crisp and the colors take on a gold glow. I love the garden flowers when they are getting towards their end - it seems their color is extra rich. It may be my imagination, but I think it is that the angle of the sun makes everything just look gorgeous. I love how all the plants fall over, creep around and just make the last ditch effort to set seed.

No surprise --- I used my garden flowers as inspiration for the New Fall 2013 Colors of Color By Kristin. If you have been following my designs over the years, these colors probably look familiar. When Classic Elite Yarns brought my favorite blend (formerly called Julia) back to life last season, they couldn't bring in all the shades. This year, they wanted me to choose 6 new shades and here is what I came up with.....

Leading off the pack, Blue Thyme 3220. This color is a lovely light teal shade - it is a complex teal - not just a blue green. It has hints of red in it and it mixes beautifully with all the other colors. I didn't have any thyme in the garden this year but I've photographed it with some lambs ears and lacinato kale.

Next in line is Coleus 3260. This is one of my favorite dark shades - not purple but more a very dark maroon. You can substitute it for any dark shade. It will add a richness to any garment.
For fun, I photographed it with the new shade Lady's Mantle 3235. When I plucked the coleus from the garden, I couldn't believe the synchronicity of the moment - the edging of the coleus was exactly the same as the new Lady's Mantle. Gorgeous.

Here Lady's Mantle 3235 is photographed with a Green Envy zinnia. Love those flowers although they do not produce very well for me.

Anemone 3295 is such a useful purple shade. Here it is photographed with Verbena Bonariesis.

Rock Henna 3255 is photographed with Hot Biscuits Amaranth. This color is a lovely dark rust with overtones of red and gold.

Lastly, how did we exist without Sunflower 3250 Color By Kristin? I'm not sure.

You can download a color card of the entire Color By Kristin color range here.  You will find the new colors on the bottom of the color card.

Here's what I have for one lucky winner today -
one skein each of the new colors of Color By Kristin.

and one copy of each of the new two new pattern books - Color By Kristin Books 4 and 5.

Here's how you enter..... Answer the following question in the comments section.
Which is your favorite of the 6 new colors of Color By Kristin?
Lady's Mantle?
Blue Thyme?
Rock Henna?
Coleus?
Anemone?
Sunflower?
What will you do with the yarn if you win it?

Contest ends Tuesday October 15th at 11:59 p.m. Please US Addresses only.
PLEASE LEAVE AN EASY WAY TO GET A HOLD OF YOU - E-MAIL OR RAVELRY ID.

And because I am sharing here today - check out Cleo - a fun Fair Isle scarf made with lots of the new colors of Color By Kristin. I knit it on short circulars and edged it in a flared rib. You can find the pattern here on Ravelry. "Heart It" if you like it. The pattern is from Book Five which is available at your local yarnstore or on Ravelry here.

Hi Kristin! How brilliant to photograph your new yarn colors with the lovely flowers of the season!!! My favorite color (and I do love them all)is the Rock Henna, gorgeous color!!! And what would I do if I won? After I jumped up and down I would dig in and make one of your pillows on Creativebug...... perfection I think! Thanks for the kind chance to win!

I think I must go back to read your recent blog entries come January when Mother Nature's palette grows way too subtle for me at times. I love the wondrous anemone, but really love the full orchestra of the six together. A project? Perhaps some color perfect Fair Isle mitts to warm the fingers of our four little grand-daughters. Those would be mittens not easily lost in the New England snows.

Hi Kristin,

My usual favorite would automatically be Blye Thyme, but the Coleus is so rich I can't take my eyes off it. If I won the yarn I'd see which of the patterns in your pattern booklet I could finish with as many of the colors as possible. If your wonderful glove pattern is there, that would probably be the winner. I love to knit gloves.

I'm very partial to the Coleus and the Lady Mantel combo. I'm think a pair of cozy sock/slippers. Then I can sit and knit and admire my toasty toe covers.

MelissaH said...

Definitely Anemone, as I'm still a sucker for purple. Looks like gloves to me!

Dana S. Whitney said...

Oh, Lady's Mantle 3235 for sure, because, in my world, maroon (or deep deep mauve) is the new black!
I'd combine some colors for a slip stitched cowl (or two).

Great job!

My favorite would have to be Lady's Mantle since I love all things green. But I really love it combined with Coleus, perhaps for a warm, cozy wrap of some kind to help usher in the new season. It feels like a very Thanksgivingish combination to me.

Love the new fall colors. So hard to choose. Blue Thyme would have to be favorite, but the Lady's Mantle/Green Envy Zinnia is stunning together.
I would make the Cleo scarf -- bold design and colors.

Oh my goodness, they are all so beautiful and rich! I love them all, but if I am forced to choose one it would have to be the Coleus. The color is so deep, and would be lovely for fall. I am not quite sure what I would make, however, the Cleo scarf looks tempting!
Thanks Kristin!

My favorite is definitely Anemone - BUT the combination of the six colors together is most inspiring. I love to color block and I'm thinking of a cardigan pattern that has wedge sections for the back. I have several patterns w/this design idea, but the 1 I believe I will try is Star Paths #486 by Valley Yarns.
I love your color combo because they are sophisticated versions, not just saturated and bright. So for that reason, I think they will blend nicely.

Rock Henna is my fav. Thanks!

Sunflower! It makes me happy inside and gives me hope.

I'll combine all the yarns into a cowl to help fight the seasonal blahs that is winter in the city of Chicago.

I loved all the colors, too hard to choose one ! but coleus ,lady's mantle and sunflower would make great mittens for my granddaughter using some of the fair isle designs from Color by Kristen...so love the time you take for your bog and the photos.

Gosh, I don't know if I can choose just one favorite color! I guess I would go with Anemone, followed closely by Blue Thyme and Rock Henna. Mittens and hats would quickly go on the needles with these yarns.

All are so gorgeous but I would choose coleus to make a scarf or shrug!

Thanks Kristin. These are all lovely. I like Coleus the most - not the best because they are all beauties!

I absolutely love all of the colors, but I would have to choose Blue Thyme, because it is closes to my daughters favorite color. And because of that I would make a hat/mittens set for her with that being the dominant color and rest as accents. Can't wait for the new season of Knit & Crochet Now!! What an opportunity! Favorite? Coleus, definitely Coleus. If I were forced to choose a second? Blue Thyme all the way (though I agree with pretty much everyone else here that they're all amazing!). What would I do with it? Let my imagination run wild and figure out some crazy color-work something (hat? mittens? cowl? who knows!) that would show all of them off to their best individual and collective advantage. Oh, the possibilities!!! I'm elephantsknit over on Rav.

So many beautiful colors, and such a difficult decision. My first choice is Blue Thyme but only by the narrowest of margins. My second choice would be Coleus.

How lovely! ...... and quite difficult to choose. If I could only have one, I would select blue thyme. What would I make if I won? I would design a lapghan that would use a combination of stitch textures and color. 'Course, I might find something which intrigues me more in your books. Shoot, I would probably end up buying more of your yarn and doing several projects. I loved using the Julia. Feels so good to knit and the colors touch me!

Good job, Kristin!

Selecting a favorite yarn color is like trying to select a favorite cat!

I really like purple, so I'll go with Anemone, but I also love Ladies Mantle, Sunflower and Coleus.

Rock Henna looks like a nice color, so it would be fun to try.

If I won, I would knit up a bunch of Quarters Caps in children's sizes and donate them.

I'm so glad that these colors or yarn are available, again, and I really like the patterns in both of your new Color by Kristin books.

When Julia disappeared those were some of the colors I could not find at WEBS and was sad when Classic Elite picked your yarn line up again to find those colors missing. What a lovely surprise to see them back! Coleus is one of my favorites especially paired with Lady's Mantle. Being at opposites ends of the color wheel they each make the other pop in a such wonderful way. I may finally make your colorful scarf from one of your books that WEBS carried as a kit way back when only now I'll have all of the colors if I win. :-)

Many thanks,

Blue Thyme is my favorite... I'm all about blue and green and blue-green and teal and all its variations. Could not love it more.

I think I would want a whole sweater out of Blue Thyme! But all these colors harmonize so well that perhaps I would choose something with a colorwork yoke to use various colors, keeping the main body in Blue Thyme.

Gorgeous color curation as usual.

Gorgeous colors. I love the complexity of your colors. They remind me of natural dyes at their best. My first choice was blue thyme but rock henna keeps haunting me. I love how cheerful sunflower is. At this moment rock henna would be my pick. Tomorrow ..? These colors beg to be knitted in color work hats and mittens. It would be fun to try different combinations of colors together and see how the colors shift when next to a different color. gnlmutti@gmail.com

Oh wow - those colours are AMAZING. My heart tells me I love Blue Thyme best, but they're all delectable. Although I know you post to US addresses only, I hope I can enter and leave you with my friend's US address - she's visiting me over here before Christmas and has come laden with goodies that I've had sent to her before! Honestly, as I read the post, each color became my new favorite - I love the pairing with garden cuttings!

But, in the end, Blue Thyme wins out.

What would I do with it? I've got lots of colorwork mitten patterns queued up, so that is probably it. But, mostly, it would absolutely take my birthday (10/15) over the top if I won!

Lady's Mantle, hands down. It has the ability to set other colors off, so that almost any other color goes well with it. Your color sense makes it easy, so I'd finally make a pair of those mittens!
